Dan dives into tartan: What's next?

The Games now at an end, we caught up with Dan as he prepares for the next stage of his career. Just turned 25 Dan announced his retirement from international swimming delighted with 2 bronze medals from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games to top off a career which included medals at the World Championships and Rio Olympics.

I started swimming because my siblings swam and my earliest memory is jumping into the deep end, and diving down to the bottom in my PJs looking for a brick! I learned to swim at Dunbar Swimming Pool and my first club was Duns ASC.

Swimming has taken Dan all over the world, with international competition and time spent in Florida training under Gregg Troy, along with many hours here in Edinburgh. In 2014 before the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Wallace said that “My most prized possession is my NCAA National Championship ring but one day I hope that will be complimented by a medal from an international competition.” An Olympic Silver, World Championship Gold and Commonwealth Gold in Gold in Glasgow and now 2 Commonwealth Bronze medals from the Gold Coast mean Dan has more than achieved his dreams.

After dedicating his life to training and swimming Dan told us:

I am intrigued to find out what I will next be good at outside of swimming if I use the same motivation and commitment from the pool to apply to something new.

We can't wait to see what Dan gets up to next and look forward to sharing a few photos of him out and about in his fabulous tartan suit over the coming months.
