The Scottish Roots in Albany County: A Chat & Whisky Tasting

Scottish Roots Albany County
November 17th - 05:30 PM
Event Address: ScotlandShop USA, 678 Loudon Road, Latham, NY 12110

Join New Scotland Spirits, ScotlandShop, and Discover Albany for a “spirited” Scottish history evening!

Two of Albany County’s biggest fans will be teaming up to host a lively chat at ScotlandShop, uncovering the deep historic Scottish roots in Albany County. Jesse Sommer (New Scotland Spirits) and Maeve McEneny-Johnson (Discover Albany) will share stories that include the town of New Scotland, the stone carvers at the New York State Capitol, and (of course!) the Scottish origin of the name “Albany!” Albany’s Scottish origins are hidden in plain sight!

Along the way, Jesse will offer a guided tasting of New Scotland Spirits whisky and bourbon. Their product ingredients are locally sourced, utilizing the finest grains grown in the fields of Albany County. Infused with a sense of place and the “terroir” of times gone by – New Scotland Spirits is an American Spirit with a New Scottish Soul! Jesse will discuss the distilling process and also why he and his team chose the town of New Scotland as their homebase.

Maeve has been a tour guide of the City of Albany for over a decade, presenting multiple themed tours and lectures throughout Albany County. She’ll offer historic insight while also keeping Jesse on track with our talk!

Scotland Shop is home to the OFFICIAL Albany Tartan! We also have over 500 clan tartans available as well as a range of Scottish gifts, perfect for the holidays. Please leave yourself time before and after the chat to browse the ScotlandShop tartan collection!
