No tartan for Zara and Mike

Zara royal wedding 180412 155945

After all the speculation there was no tartan in Zara's wedding dress nor did Mike Tindall wear a kilt at their wedding in Edinburgh this weekend. In a dress designed by the Queen’s favourite couturier Stewart Parvin Zara looked absolutely stunning. Over 6000 Scots lined the Royal Mile in Edinburgh when the couple emerged from the Canongate Kirk waving Saltire's and Union Jack's.

Zara looked a true princess in her romantic full-length ivory silk gown with silk tulle detail and although we were disappointed Mike did not choose to wear a kilt he looked the part in his morning suit. And which tartan would he have worn? Press speculation varied between the Phillips tartan or the Tindall tartan and our favourite the Royal Pride tartan. Zara's beautiful white bouquet was peppered with Scottish thistles in recognition of the location of their wedding.

Zara spent her last night as a single girl at the Queen’s official Scottish residence, Holyroodhouse, and this is where the wedding party returned to after the service to celebrate. Dinner had a Scottish theme and included a lobster and crayfish cocktail, Scottish venison with dauphinois potatoes, and a chocolate fondant with strawberries. There were lots of personal touches throughout with a choir of 15 boys and girls from Zara’s old Scottish boarding school Gordonstoun performed Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer, Love Divine All Loves Excelling, Amazing Grace and Jerusalem, as well as a Gaelic blessing.

There were many striking outfits, Royal guests and famous faces, and we did of course spot a few kilts on the day with Page boy Ted Maude, Zara's godson, looking very cute in his tartan kilt. Our favourite outfit of the day Sir Jackie Stewart sporting a Stewart tartan kilt and matching tartan kilt hose. Those who lined the streets were no doubt also looking out for the newly wed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who arrived with Prince Harry and used their Scottish title as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn for the first time.

An exciting weekend in Edinburgh blessed with sunshine!
