OTHER NAMES WHO WEAR THE Dunbar TARTAN:

WHAT DOES THE Dunbar NAME MEAN?
Dun means fortress in Gaelic and Bar is the name of the brave captain who was awarded the fortress after the Battle of Scone when the Picts fled.

WHERE DOES THE Dunbar CLAN HAIL FROM?
The Dunbar Earls of Dunbar and March controlled much of Lothian, and all of "The Borders", Berwick, Peebles, Selkirk, and Roxburgh, plus great holdings in Northumberland and Cumberland.

The Clan Dunbar has long been closely associated with the Church, and has built monasteries, abbeys, and chapels throughout the Scottish Nation. The Clan was present on the Crusades to the Holy Land, and the Seal of the House of Dunbar can be found on the Arbroath Declaration sent to the Pope.
