Measuring Experiences: Bespoke, personal and tailored to you

We offer three different measuring experience packages to suit your needs and of course we are very happy to cater to your special requests (this week Grant brought his Mum in to help him choose his wedding kilt to be made in his late Dad's tartan and we made sure we had her favourite tea in store, so she could sit comfortably on the ScotlandShop sofa with a nice cuppa, and see her favourite son kitted out):

  1. Our Kilt Outfit Experience: You will be measured for your kilt outfit and accessories. A tailoring consultant will help you style your outfit to suit your taste - be it traditional highlandwear, or a more modern touch.
  2. Our Tailored Suit Experience: You will choose and style your perfect two or three-piece suit. Our experienced staff will offer insights into choosing your perfect tartan or tweed, and will measure you for a suit ideal for your occasion.
  3. Our Womenswear Experience: You will be measured for a beautiful tartan dress, skirt or jacket. Your tailoring consultant will guide you through choosing your dream fabric, and how to style it.

For each appointment type, you have the option to include a tartan and clan consultation. If you are unsure of your family tartan or clan link, this is always a great place to start! We have our giant clan map up on the wall so you can pinpoint your ancestors and explore regional and clan tartans, flip through the swatch books and compare ancient, modern, hunting and weathered. Our kilt outfit package also has the option to include a kilt consultation where we can talk you through the traditions and history of the kilt outfit, as well as how to wear it. There are an awful lot of accessories and every one has a story! We can talk you through how many twists to put in the laces of your Ghillie Brogues, why they have holes in them, how the Fly Plaid came to be, how to pronounce Sgian Dubh (skee-ən-DOO) and much more.

Exclusive Shopping

Our appointments take place at our flagship Edinburgh store (or virtually if you can't make it to Scotland's capital city), but if you’re looking for something even more personal we can cater to your needs! For a small deposit that is redeemable against your purchase, we can close our Edinburgh showroom for you and your party. This will allow you to have the entire space exclusively to yourselves and is perfect for larger groups.

You don’t have to come to us! We can also arrange to come to your Edinburgh hotel during your stay. Your tailoring consultant will bring garments, swatch books and styling details to you.

Larger groups are welcome, and we offer gift vouchers for a really unique present!

You can book your measuring experience online, by calling us at +44 (0)1890 860770, or emailing us.

Before your Measuring Experience

Prior to your visit, you will receive a personal email from your tailoring consultant introducing themselves, as well as detailing your appointment type and what to expect on the day. Your consultant will see you through the entire experience from initial appointment to final collection and after care. They will even be on hand via phone or email for any questions you may have.

If you have any particular style ideas, photographs or questions, please feel free to email these in advance so we can better cater to your tastes. The more information we have, the better the results!

What to Bring

On the day itself, please bring with you the shoes you plan to wear with your garments, any fabrics or items you hope to colour match, and any garments you plan to wear with your tartan. If coming for our tartan suit experience, please wear a shirt for your fittings, and bring an existing suit you love the fit of if you can.

Feel free to bring any friends and family with you, and we even cater for large groups such as wedding parties. Second, third and fourth opinions always help when choosing your dream ensemble!

What to Expect During your First Appointment

Your tailoring consultant will be in store to greet you and show you through to our measuring area. Your party will be offered a tasty local beverage thanks to Weymss Whisky, or Edinburgh Gin (soft drinks also available) while we carry out an optional clan consultation, sharing with you the background on tartans, clans and Scottish traditions. We can tailor this to your specific interests and appointment type to include kilt history (from the Great Kilt or belted plaid to today's more structured garment), or Scottish wedding traditions (Celtic handfasting ceremonies and a sixpence in your shoe). We can even help you delve deeper into your Scottish family origins.

We will discuss your occasion, garments, tartans, tweed and finishes before selecting your cloth and style details. This can be daunting when faced with hundreds of fabric options, fits, buttons and linings, but don’t worry, your tailoring consultant will help you style your outfit to perfection! Swatches and samples are on hand so you can try different colour combinations and have fun making your choices.

You will then be measured for your tartan or tweed garments, and any accessories you require.

We take full payment for your order at your initial appointment, and if you would like any additional items later on we can simply add them in. We will create an account for you to store all your details so if you think you might want an additional item at a later date we can take all the relevant details during your appointment and keep them on file for later. Create your very own wish list!

Second Appointment

4-6 weeks after your appointment, you will be invited back to our Edinburgh showroom to have a final fitting and collect your tartan garments. You can try on your items, and your tailoring consultant will check that everything fits flawlessly. Your outfit will then be safely packaged up in a ScotlandShop garment bag, ready to take home and enjoy! If you live further afield we can of course ship your garments directly to your home address.

After Care Pack

Because we want you to get the best out of your garments, your tailoring consultant will create an after care pack personalised to you with advice for caring for your tartan wool, and even tips on how to style each item. This will be included with your delivery or collection.
