Tartan Day Star1 180412 155920

Hurray it's April and Tartan Day is almost here which means it is time to launch our competition!

6th April marks Tartan Day, a celebration of Scottish heritage on the date on which the Declaration of Arbroath was signed in 1320. New York City claims the first event in 1982 with a one-off event, then the existing format originated in Canada in the 1980s. Since then other communities of the Scottish diaspora have followed. In Australasia the similar International Tartan Day is held on July 1, the anniversary of the repeal of the 1747 Act of Proscription that banned the wearing of tartan.

Tartan Days typically have parades of pipe bands, Highland Dancing and Scottish themed events. So we want to know what you are up to this year? Our Blog, Facebook and Twitter pages will be devoted to your events and celebrations over the next few weeks and we want to hand out a few prizes for the best efforts.

2 prizes are up for grabs (and we will award a few extra spot prizes if you really impress us!):

Category 1 - Best Dressed Tartan Day attendee - dig out your best tartan and put together an unusual, or especially stylish or completely wacky outfit and we will post the pics on our blog and judge the best one

Category 2 - Celebrity spotter - email us any pics of celebrities looking good in tartan with details of where you spotted them and we will award a prize for the best one

Email your entries to anna@scotlandshop.com or post them on your Facebook or other social media page and send us the link.

Entries close on April 11th at 2pm Scottish time and results will be posted by Wednesday 13th April.
