Tartan Inspired Gift Wrap - Scottish Magazine Subscription
Need that last minute gift? A magazine subscription is the perfect choice for any age or genre. As the subscription often doesn't kick in for a few weeks, head out to your local newsagent to buy the current copy and then wrap it up to make it feel like a real gift. Not content with boring old paper we are using fabric to wrap our magazine with and we used two tartans in this project, the Shiel Lavender Dancers tartan and Bell of the Borders and accessorised it with a Machair Brooch. If you know the recipients own family tartan make it extra personal and use this or we have lots of generic tartans such as the Scotland Forever and Black Watch. There are regional tartans too if you want to spark memories of a special place or event. I love to make things personal and add that extra bit of thought!
1. Roll the magazine so the page edges are on the inside. We used the Scottish Field magazine as it is one of our favourites! You can secure with ribbon but for this project we have used a strip of tartan fabric
2. Measure a larger piece of fabric that is approximately three times the height with enough to go around the magazine. You will also need a square of the same tartan. Keep this aside for the finishing touch. Add some double sided tape and stick the fabric around the circular magazine.
3. Add your thin strip across the top.
4. Of course you can use this technique for wrapping all sorts of things, it doesn't have to be a magazine.
5. Take the extra square and roll it into a tube.
6. Fold the two sides across the top of the magazine. Add the fabric tube and tie together.
Add the finishing touch with the Machair brooch. A kilt pin also works brilliantly or any little brooch you have to hand.
Ta da! A simple gift like a magazine subscription turns into something very special and personal.
And there you have it, one gorgeously gift wrapped magazine that anyone would be very happy to receive. Christmas all wrapped up!
