As seen in Dolce and Gabbana’s Ready-to-Wear Spring 2020 collection, rich greens contrasted with white and yellow are perfect for the warmer weather. The Italian designers specialise in classic, elegant looks with exciting colours and unusual prints to stand out from the crowd which is demonstrated perfectly in this latest collection. D&G’s bold prints, according to founder Stefano Gabbana, incorporate a “sense of happiness, summertime”, which is much needed in today’s challenging Corona virus climate.

The deep colours of D&G’s runway garments can be replicated in the Gordon Modern tartan and will feel stand-out, but easy to wear if you’re not quite ready for a full on yellow ‘Loud MacLeod’ tartan outfit! I recommend a Gordon mini kilt which is perfect for sunny days, paired with a loose fit white blouse similar to the pairings found on the runway. To pick out the beautiful yellow stripe found in the tartan, add accessories such as a hair piece, or steal the Dolce and Gabbana style with a yellow handbag and shoes. For a modern take on the smart-casual look for men, look no further than our Spring Summer 2020 collection. We chose the eye-catching Gordon Dress Modern tartan for a bold shirt that can be effortlessly dressed up or down with jeans or even dress trousers.

The addition of the white squares in the dress tartan contrasting with the darker colours brightens up your Gordon look for spring. If prefer to keep your look classic, match your Gordon shirt with our Kirkton tweed trousers and matching day brogues. Add the matching suit jacket too for the complete outfit.

Topman fall 2015 photo. For a fashion forward outfit, Topman’s Fall 2015 catwalk showed a full Gordon Dress suit with longline jacket. This was layered with a bold yellow shirt to pick out that amazing yellow stripe in the tartan. A longline coat might be a bit much for the summer months, but don’t worry, we can do a shorter length suit jacket too!

Tartan is for your home too, not just your wardrobe! Because we’ve all been spending a lot of time at home recently, this is the perfect opportunity to add some home accessories to brighten up your living spaces.

If your home has white, beige, or grey walls, try adding Gordon Ancient cushions to your sofa for a soft and cosy look. These simple touches will bring the outside in with the natural greens and give your home the feel of a fresh spring day in the garden. This is particularly perfect if you’re like me and don’t have your own outdoor space to relax in!

If you’re planning a big summer lunch or BBQ for when meeting with friends and family is allowed again, a Gordon red or Gordon dress tablecloth and napkins are a great option. These will look wonderful in a country kitchen setting, or even at the garden table.

Another great way to use tartan in your home is to combine and mix different tartans together for a very unique look. In the photo below, we have used Gordon Clan Ancient as well as Gordon Red Ancient tartans to create a fun and playful look that adds a feature to the room. The trick to making this work in any space is to use complimentary colours throughout your tartan choices, as well as using different sized checks (as lots of small prints can overwhelm your room!).

Alternatively, to add a touch of drama and opulence to your home, add some Gordon Modern tartans with a brushed wool rug on a favourite chair or curtains in the living room. The dark colours will add depth to your room and create a big impact without having to totally re-decorate.

At our Edinburgh shop, we enhance our dark green sofas with Gordon Dress Modern cushions.
