Throughout the month of March we have been celebrating Clan MacRae. We have looked at the famous faces, the castles and explored the great battles the MacRae's fought in, along with their connection to the MacKenzie clan. Finally, we called upon the valued Clan members to share their stories; the response was fantastic and we are so excited to share them.

MacRae Wedding

Andrew MacRae was excited to share pictures of his daughters wedding and we have to say everyone looked absolutely lovely. The couple got married at a small local church in Pyecombe, West Sussex in the United Kingdom. Andrew was proudly wearing his two-piece tartan suit in the MacRae Modern tartan and his son was wearing a matching waistcoat. While of course the Bride was the star of the show, the two piece suit was no doubt a great conversational piece and the perfect heritage link to the family's clan.

I walked my daughter down the aisle in my MacRae clan suit while my son Cameron sported the waistcoat.

MacRae Family History

Sharon is a proud descendant of the MacRae clan and shared some fantastic history with us. This picture is of William McRae, her great grandfather. He moved to Canada in 1848 at the young age of 11 with his parents and brother. We love this picture, and can only imagine the colours of William's tartan. William was born and raised in Scotland until his departure to Canada and there is no doubt that it was important to him and his relatives to keep their Scottish heritage at the forefront of their lives.

I am descended from Farquhat McRae born 1800 in Scotland and came to Canada with his family in 1848 settling in Aldborough Township. My great great grandmother Jannet was also a McRae from Sallachy which has made a lot of confusion. Their son William's daughter Janet Catharine McRae was my grandmother. She was a seamstress but died when my father was 18 years old. Unfortunately I never knew her.

Duncan MacRae

Kirk got in touch to share this picture of his Great Uncle Duncan MacRae. Do you recognised anyone in this picture? This is Sir Alec Guinness, Gordon Jackson and of course Duncan MacRae. They were filming the movie 'Tunes of Glory'. As a big movie buff myself I was excited to explore this film and it's links to Scotland. The movie focusses on the Highland regiment just after World War two, and follows a journey of two rivals fighting for leadership. Interestingly, the kilts the men wore in the film were a custom weave and were then used in other movies, however historically Argyll and Sutherland highlanders would wear Black Watch tartan, the tartan looks a lot like Auld Lang Syne Grey. Duncan has starred in many movies and his filmography is extensive and impressive.

Duncan was a huge part in producing the best Actors in history even to the point Peter Sellers told him to not do a French accent as to not upstage him in Casino Royale

Vogue magazine had a snippet in their magazine to celebrate Scottish Talent. In 1949 Duncan MacRae was featured in their article. He was part of the Citizens theatre in Glasgow and was part of Edinburgh's Festival - now known as the famous Fringe Festival. He fell in love with acting and proudly used his comedy to bring entertainment to all, spread a lot of joy and has left a fantastic legacy.

Murray got in touch to share his Scottish Heritage and link to the mighty MacRae Clan. His mother was a Macrae and her family emigrated from Aberdeen to British Columbia, Murray's Grandfather was a sergeant-Major and was wounded at the Battle of Somme. Due to his injuries he was sent to a hospital in England, where he met the love of his life- Emma Blanche Murray. She was from Nova Scotia and had been recognised as a Captain in the Royal Canadian Army Nurse Corps. A lovely story of fate and love, which bloomed and as time went on their family grew and grew.

All of which eventually led to me.

Sari has shared the beautiful photos of her wedding. Unfortunately her Nanny wasn't able to make it, but bought her a Sash to wear on the day, in MacRae Hunting Weathered. We are sure you'll agree that Sari looks absolutely gorgeous in her dress and sash. Her sister wore a sash in the MacRae Dress tartan, and her father wore a tie in the same tartan. Creatively, Sari also included the tartan with little swatches included in the boutonnieres. Even the children sported the tartan, one having a skirt made out of the MacRae modern Tartan and one wore a beautiful bow tie in the same tartan.

I love several of the tartans so we just did a smattering of several. We loved how it turned out and loved that we were able to have our heritage a big part(and affordable the way we did it) of our big, special day.
