A Royal Wedding calls for a Tartan Throne

On Saturday, the world was focused on Windsor Castle and the Wedding of Prince "Harry" Henry Charles Albert David to Rachel Meghan Markle, now titled the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. After months of discussion over the dress, the cake and the guest list, over 1.9 billion people tuned in to find out the answers to all of these questions. The streets of Windsor were lined with thousands hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple in person, but this was just one of the many street & garden parties taking place this weekend. Of course we wanted to bring the celebrations to the west end of Edinburgh so how better to do this than with a bespoke Edinburgh Tartan Throne to take pride of place in the shop window.

Our Tartan Throne was created in the UK by Hidden Mill who specialise in hand-finishing and upholstering furniture. The mill was founded in 2016 by Karin & Charlie and they are based in a converted cotton mill in Bolton. We chose a polished Lion Throne but Charlie did say their best selling chair has to be the Baroque Throne.

We were delighted to use some of our lovely tartan fabric to create our new piece of furniture and are the first tartan upholstery project the mill have undertaken. We used our 16oz wool which is perfect for upholstery and pretty indestructible so perfect for creating heirlooms like this one. The Edinburgh tartan was designed in 1970 by Hugh Macpherson to commemorate the Commonwealth Games held in Edinburgh.

We have already had a few customers seated on the throne so don't be shy, pop in and have your photo taken when you are next in the Capital.
