Clan Davidson to host Annual Gathering in Stirling this weekend

This weekend marks the annual Clan Davidson. Now let's begin...

The Gathering will begin on Friday 4th October, with all members arriving at the hotel mid-afternoon to give plenty of time to meet up for an informal dinner in the evening. This acts as a welcome for all the members, let everyone get to know one another, allow those new to the Clan the opportunity to introduce themselves and for existing members a chance to have a good old catch up.

On Saturday everyone has some free time in the morning to explore the city before the Annual General Meeting and a not to be missed talk all about the connections the Davidson name has with the region. The Davidson Clan is believed to have originated in the Badenoch area of the Scottish Highlands back in the 14th century so it is fitting that the gathering takes place in Stirling which is also know as the Gateway to the Highlands, due to its central location linking the lowlands to the highlands, and providing the lowest bridging point of the River Forth before it becomes the Firth of Forth. In the evening the members are treated to a formal dinner that will include presentations, fun entertainment and even a ceilidh dance or two. All members will then part ways and say their good-byes on the Sunday morning.

As I mentioned earlier the gathering will take place in Stirling, however last year it was hosted in Aberdeen (today the region where you will find the most Davidson's in Scotland), and the year before in Hexham (there are many clusters of the clan in Northumberland and County Durham). The Clan Davidson Society is different from other Clan Societies in that they do not hold their gatherings in the same place, they like to choose a new location each year so members can experience a different area of the country. They always make sure to select an area that has some sort of historical or genealogical link to the clan with places of interest to explore, which seems a great idea and another good excuse to discover unknown bits of our beautiful country.
