Return to the Office Tartan Style

Now that we are in June, many of us are returning to the office, even if it is only a few days a week, so it is time to relinquish our pyjamas and casual clothes and start thinking about our office attire again!

We know it will take a bit of adjustment to dress smartly for the office, instead of wearing your most comfortable clothes at home, and that's why we have pulled together our favourite tartan picks which will bring plenty of excitement to the office! It is nice to dress up, feel a sense of purpose and show off your best features and quality Scottish tailoring is just the way to do it.

First of all, which tartan should you wear to the office? There are literally hundreds to choose from, so this can be a little daunting. Since tartan is such a traditional fabric, it would seem to be most fitting to wear your family clan tartan, although I personally would just choose one of my favourites!

Return to the office tartans

In terms of work wear, darker or more neutral tartan colours may work best for garments. I would suggest Stewart Black Modern, Black Watch Modern, and Douglas Grey. These can all be brightened up with brighter tonal accessories if you are planning on venturing out for dinner post 5pm, or if like me you just love a pop of colour!

For women, a classic wrap skirt can feel formal or more casual depending on how you style it! WhoWhatWear.com explains;

“There’s something about a wrap skirt that feels sophisticated and chic in a not-trying-so-hard kind of way. Wear with a slim turtleneck for day, toss on a moto jacket for evening, and you’re set.”

Ladies suit

To create your work to evening skirt suit, combine a Stewart Black Celtic Wrap Skirt with a matching fitted jacket. Keep it work-appropriate with a simple black or white blouse, which you can then switch out for a brighter evening top in red or yellow!

If you’re looking to keep your work wear simple, try adding a lightweight tartan scarf and oversized Celtic knot brooch to your normal looks for a nod to your Scottish heritage.

For the men, a classic suit will always be the way to go for work. Choose a monotone tartan for a three piece such as Buccleuch Modern or Douglas Grey, which can be worn in an ensemble together, or combined with an existing grey suit you already have. Autumn Winter 2020 catwalks have shown simple waistcoats with no lapels, under a single-breasted jacket - all slim fit for a sleek and stylish look.

Menssuit

To incorporate more personality while keeping your suit work friendly, add in a bold tartan tie. I suggest going for a red based tartan to contrast with a black, navy or grey suit. For the evening celebrations, you can take off the jacket, and let your bright Scottish tie take the lead. Add in a matching pocket square and cufflinks for a more coordinated and thought out look.
