Doddie Cup

Hamilton & Inches is famous as a destination for luxury jewellery but not everyone knows that below the Edinburgh shop on Edinburgh's exclusive George Street is a workshop creating some other truly unique pieces. Most recently the Doddie'5 Cup was commissioned and as a keen rugby man himself, Chief Executive Stephen Paterson, couldn't have been more delighted to take on the project and show their support for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.

Doddie Weir may have won 61 Scotland caps but he played just the once at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, a place most people still refer to as the Millennium stadium, in a testimonial match in 2005 honouring Rob Howley and Scott Quinnell. Quinnell abseiled onto the pitch that day but so far we have not received any instructions to re-inforce the new suit for any shenanigans such as this, but there is no doubt that his return to the pitch will be an emotional one if the Murrayfield Game last November is anything to go by.

We have of course created in Doddie's words "a new frock" for the occasion and we can't wait to see him stride out onto the pitch with his family by his side, a shining example of positive attitude and astounding bravery in the face of MND. The suit will combine tartan from both nations and is the usual bold affair. Watch out for the unveiling this week on social media!

The mighty trophy is made from Sterling silver and beech harvested from woodland in Doddie's homeland, the Scottish Borders, with the lid set with smokey quartz, and a silver band for engraving the name of the winners (fingers crossed, come on Scotland), those fine lugs (that is ironically the technical term for the handles on the cup) are cast and hammered finished then engraved with the emblems of the Scottish and Welsh nations. A magnificent piece of work and we love that it is made in Scotland, just like Doddie and his Doddie'5 tartan.
