The Scottish Open Round-Up
Sunday saw the finale of 2018's Scottish Open, after four days of great golf, fun family activities and glorious sunshine. I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Showdown Sunday of the competition and took my Dad along for the day as he is a massive golf fan, spending most weekends on our local course in Duns. So here is my round up of all the excitement from the past weekend.
The Scottish Open is one of eight competitions that make up theEuropean Tour's Rolex Series, first introduced in 2016 it joins the BMW PGA Championship in England, Italian Open, French Open, Irish Open, Turkey Open, Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa and World Tour Championship in Dubai. The series is currently on a break until November whilst other European Tour competitions take place.
On Sunday, from about 3 o'clock onwards the scores sat extremely tight with the top 6 in the leader board constantly switching after almost every hole. Brandon Stone from South Africa pulled it out of the bag in the final 9 holes finishing with a score of -20, Eddie Pepperell from England finished in second place with a score of -16 and Luke List from America, Trevor Immelman from Russia and Jens Dantorp from Sweden finished tied for third place all with a score of -15. There was a lot of amazing golf played, making a very tense, yet exciting, final day.
There wasn't just Golf to keep visitors entertained as there was a whole host of activities for everyone to participate in, no matter what age. An inflatable assault course, disc golf, a country driving experience, enough food stalls to feed an army, as well as a big screen where people could catch up with the tennis, amongst other things. Dad's favourite stand was Titleist where they evaluated your stroke and told you which golf balls worked best for you. As expected Dad took full advantage of this opportunity and even got to take home a few samples.

Gullane's Golf Course record was beaten on multiple occasions over the duration of the open, firstly by Scotsman Connor Syme who finished on Friday with a score of 62, and only a few hours later by Hideto Tanihara from Japan who shot a 61. Of course, this was beaten by Stone on Sunday who very nearly shot the European Tour's first 59, but unfortunately he missed the final putt and finished with a score of 60.
A ScotlandShop round-up of the Scottish Open would not be complete without a look at the tartan spotted out on the course. As you would have read in the blog on Friday, The Scottish Open Pro-Am was full of players wearing the limited edition Doddie'5 Golf Trousers. However, on Sunday another pair were spotted, worn by Pedro Oriol from Spain who looked very fetching in the bright tartan. Oriol turned Pro in 2009 and currently sits at 342 in the world rankings.
