Clan Campbell Stories
Every month we choose a Clan to celebrate and throughout July we've gone completely Campbell. We've been lucky enough to have had some wonderful stories sent to us over the month from members of the clan, far and wide. We've compiled all of our favourites here to share with you and the rest of the clan too!
Peruvian Past
Proud Campbell runs through my veins although I was not born in Scotland, BUT, my Campbell roots pulled me back and I have been living in Scotland for a while now. I was born in Panama but my Father is Peruvian. So many years ago we decided to track back our Campbell name and it took us back to Hugh Campbell, my Great Grandfather born in Wick, Scotland. He decided to travel to Peru to help with Farming techniques and stayed in Peru and married there and had children. To make the story short, my Mother travelled to Peru from Panama when she was young, to visit a close friend, and this is how she met my Father. Then they moved back to Panama and many years later I was born. I was offered a scholarship to do my Master and PhD studies in Scotland... and here I am ! Wearing all my Campbell Tartan Fashion especially in the winter. (The only thing I don't have is a Tartan Shirt for the summer months !). My favourite Tartan is the Black Watch and the Campbell Ancient. Here's a photo of my Dad and I when he came to visit me in February this year, I think this was somewhere nearby Glencoe (ironic !). - Inez Campbell
Iona's Campbell Wedding
This is my daughter Iona with her husband Michael & her Dad, wearing her Campbell Tartan Stole with pride on her wedding day. Iona and Michael were married at Eskmills Venue on the 18th of October 2019. We are all very proud Scots, so chose to do a traditional handfasting ceremony. We had the family ribbons for this made by yourselves also. Iona is a very proud Campbell and as we don’t have any sons to carry on our family name she felt it only right that it featured in her big day, her last day of being known as a Campbell. People always said to us that Iona’s name was very Scottish. She luckily still has a very Scottish married name of Iona McKirdy. - Lee Campbell
Canadian Campbell
A Canadian with Scottish heritage (me) proposing to my Scottish wife at the top of Castle Campbell at Dollar in my Ancient Campbell tartan kilt in March 2018, then married in Banff in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in 2019. - Philip Robichaud
A Distinguished Campbell
Uncle Charles received the Distinguished Service Cross, our second highest medal for valor. He was part of a reconnaissance patrol that crossed the Rhine River near Mannhiem Germany. When the patrol was discovered by German forces, he alone provided covering fire that allowed the rest of the patrol to recross the river. He remained behind , consequently, killed in action. He is buried at the ABMC cemetery Lorraine in ST Avold, France. - Harold Campbell
