Did you know that in a pair of Kilt Brogues there are 75 different shoe parts and 200 operations required to make them?
If you love the Inside the Factory series as much as I do then you will no doubt be very interested in just how your kilt shoes are made and what makes them so special. The quality of the outer leather is obviously of key importance, combined with a leather lining which is much more comfortable and being a natural fibre will breathe and avoid hot feet when you hit the dance floor for a Ceilidh. Extra cushioning in the insoles means you can dance all night and the padded top line around your ankle and heel give you extra support and comfort.
The Ghillie Brogues we stock (for men and boys) are made in a very traditional way, but with some modern technology thrown in with "Goodyear welted", known to be the best type of shoe construction in the world. But what does this mean? The "welt" is a strip of leather stitched to the upper and insole, and to which the sole is also stitched. The life on your shoes is extended with the soles lock stitched using two separate threads, so no worries about that sole flapping off after you wear them twice! To give the final finishing touch the soles are trimmed to the perfect shape by hand. Brass nails fix the heels on securely and steel quarter tips give extra long life however many times you march 500 miles.
