We have had so much fun exploring the history of Clan MacDonald throughout December, but what we have enjoyed the most is reading all the amazing stories members of the Clan have sent us. As we look ahead to ringing in the bells for Hogmanay, today we have collated a few of our favourites to share with you all.
Magical MacDonald Weddings
Micah married his wife back in April in a very intimate ceremony and he shared a few of the pictures from the beautiful day, as he and his son both wore the MacDonald tartan, to highlight his Scottish roots.
Thank you for supplying the beautiful MacDonald of Clanranald kilts, as well as my son's matching romper, for the day! It was truly a memorable experience after I had the opportunity to propose during our visit to the Isle of Skye in 2019 while exploring my family's homeland in and around Arisaig. My wife and I even got a write up in the New York Times, with some family photos.
MacDonald Tartan Creations
One of our lovely customers, Jenny, recently had us make this wacky cap for her husband's birthday! She had our Tartan Eight Quarter Cap customised to include 8 different tartans, 7 variations of the MacDonald tartan with the Aberdeen tartan on the peak of the cap. She chose these tartans as her husband is a member of Clan MacDonald and was originally from Aberdeen. She even had a message embroidered on the inside of the cap. A really thoughtful gift, perfect for a special birthday. If you have any special requests like this, please do not hesitate to get in touch, our Customer Experience team are always looking for ways to bring your tartan dreams to life!
Sentimental Postcards
When Andrew discovered we were celebrating the MacDonald's as our Clan of the Month he hunted out this meaningful postcard he was sent by his wife to be. We love that the vintage postcard not only features the MacDonald Clan Modern tartan, but also includes the Clan Crest and a MacDonald Highlander!
The postmark on this postcard is the 7th of March 1991. This was sent to me by my wife to be. We lived in London at that time but she was working on a project in the Scottish borders. We were married in October the next year.
Quirky Kilt Accessories
Harold is very passionate about being a member of Clan MacDonald, and he wears his Kilt at every occasion possible, so he thought he would make his outfits even more exciting with a unique Kilt pin.
Just created a new kilt pin calibrating a great Scouting representative on my MacDonald kilt. I have been (literally) involved in Scouting my whole life and officially for 40 years.
MacDonald Gifts
Fiona was so excited to welcome a new member not only to her family, but to the MacDonald Clan, and so she decided to gift her new daughter in a law a MacDonald tartan treat!
My son recently married his Canadian girlfriend. I gifted her the MacDonald shawl and clan crest, as a welcome to our family and clan.
Discover Clan MacDonald
If you would like to discover more about this strong and famous Clan, Monja and Kalyn took to the ScotlandShop Sofa to explore it all, from the origins right through to the modern day Clan. During the month we even had the exciting opportunity to speak to Godfrey Macdonald, the High Chief of Clan Donald. If you want to learn more about being the only High Chief in Scotland, then head to the blog to discover Godfrey's story.
We have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating the MacDonald's throughout December, and just because our celebrations have come to an end doesn't mean our love for the Clan has. So if you want to chat all things MacDonald, or any other Clan for the matter, be sure to get in touch.
