FAQ
Can I wash my tweed skirt myself?

No. Our tweed fabric is made from 100% wool so you must have your skirt cleaned by a professional dry cleaner. Professional cleaning ensures the quality of your tweed is maintained, there isn’t any damage to the delicate wool fibers, and you can continue to wear it for years to come!

What is the difference between tartan and tweed?

Tweed is a thicker fabric, traditionally used outdoors and for warmth. It is woven with earthy colors that are blended and is made from 100% wool. By contrast, tartan is woven in a specific pattern, often with bolder colors, and tends to represent a specific Scottish clan, although there are now many tartans that have been designed with no affiliation to a family surname. Tartan is a softer and smoother fabric that is much easier to drape, as it is woven with worsted wool that has been combed to allow the wool fibers to lie straight.

How to make sure my measurements are correct?

For your kilted skirt you will need three measurements, hip, waist and length. These can be taken by you or by our team. If you would like to take your own measurements, we would recommend looking at our custom skirt sizing guide. We also provide virtual appointments where we can take you through the process of measuring yourself, that way you are confident it is correct. If you would rather have someone with expertise in this to take them, you can book an appointment to visit one of our stores!

Where did tweed come from?

Tweed originated in Scotland and Ireland in the early 18th century. Farmers and Shepards had it woven with thick wool to keep them warm in the colder and damper seasons and protected from the strong winds. After this, tweed became very well known and was used for outdoor hunting and shooting. To this day it is still very commonly used for these activities. To find out more about the history take a look at our blog page on “What is Tweed”.

Returns Process

We hope you love your parcel from Scotland; however, we do understand that sometimes you might need to return or exchange items.

For stock products we have a 30 day, no quibble return policy, this also applies to sale items and in store purchases. Items must be unworn, with labels attached. Simply fill in the authorisation form and we will confirm the address for you to send it back to us.

Custom made or personalised goods are non-returnable unless the item is faulty or made to incorrect measurements. You must give us the opportunity to adjust, repair or replace faulty or incorrect items before you can claim a refund. We are also unable to accept returns on cut lengths of fabric and we advise ordering swatches prior to ordering large quantities of fabric if you want to check colours and quality.

View our full Returns Policy or contact us should you require any further assistance or information.
