Scotland is a beautiful country and we want to play our part in taking care of her so we have set ourselves the goal to learn and implement more to make a difference and contribute proactively to the welfare of our planet and people. While we know this isn't a quick fix, and there is still a long way to go with making our company more sustainable, we are truly committed to reducing our environmental impact and will continue to make positive changes in every aspect of our business that better impact the world around us.
At the heart of the majority of our products that we make or stock is wool! Wool is considered one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly natural fibres.
In performance terms, wool is something of a miracle fabric. Highly durable, with inherent flame-resistant properties, it also has some natural water repellence. The breathable nature of the wool we use means every piece stays fresher for longer, which ultimately results in the product needing washed less too.
We are also very proud to support Scottish mills, steeped in history and tradition, to weave all of our tartan and tweed wool fabrics.
In today’s world of fast fashion and ever changing trends, we take pride in prioritising the slow and timeless. We are proud that all our tailored, custom made clothing is made from the finest wool tartan or tweed fabric, and know you can dress in confidence knowing that wool is 100% natural, 100% renewable, 100% sustainable and 100% biodegradable.
The quality and craftsmanship of all of our products really do speak for themselves and when properly cared for, are designed to last for years to come. Kilts in particular are often a treasured family garment, passed down from generation to generation, a cycle which we are incredibly proud to be part of. Our Customer Service team is always on hand to advise on how to care for and maximise the life of your products.
All the mills responsible for weaving our tartan fabrics are based in Scotland, as are many of the wonderful tailors who take our tartan and create that garment you’ve always dreamt of. Supply lines are short, minimising environmental impact, shipments are grouped to limit journey count, where we are required to look further afield, partners must evidence their own sustainability credentials as part of the supply process.
100% of our scraps & cut off fabrics are recycled. If not used for swatches, we collect all fabric scraps and place them into scrap bags for crafting and other uses. We donate these bags to local clubs, schools and nurseries for art & craft projects and sensory activities.
In a bid to reduce the number of deliveries and lower emissions from our delivery services, unless stated we will always hold on to all order items until the order is complete and shipped in full, as one package.
As we sell our products globally, we often post items to different locations. Our packaging is a huge focus for us in reducing our environmental impact and we have started to transition all of our packaging to be fully recyclable. Our boxes, small package bags, paper packaging tape and in-store paper carrier bags are all biodegradable. As we reduce the rest of our current stock down we will replace this with an eco-friendly alternative to ensure all of our packaging is 100% recyclable.
Any plastic bags from within the company are kept and reused within our dispatch department.
All in house printing is kept to a bare minimum with digital customer and order records.
The majority of our advertising is done digitally, however when we do create printed materials these are always very limited in number and made using the most sustainable methods. Our designated printing company only uses paper that is FSC or PEFC certified from sustainable forests. You can opt out from print at any time.
