Master Mackay Tartan Styling
Daks, another British fashion house, took a more tailored approach to blue check outerwear with blazers and longline coats in their winter ’17 collection. The bold blue fabrics took centre stage and were complimented with shades of black and grey to balance out the looks. Cropped wide leg trousers featured alongside business-like patent black bags and shoes – ideal for returning to the office, while long jackets acted as dresses when combined with sheer black tights. I’d wear this look as a stunning evening outfit. Opt for alongline jacket to recreate these looks, and add simple solid colour garments for an interestingly subtle outfit which is sure to be at home in any closet.

If you prefer the more traditional tartans, I’d suggest choosing the MacKay Ancient for the ladies. As seen in street style images, the lighter shade lends itself well to a more eye-catching coat. Again, keep it simple underneath with a solid colour pleated skirt and blouse, letting your statement coat do the talking!

For the gentlemen, go for the classic MacKay Modern. If your wardrobe is all black and navy, the modern MacKay variant won’t be out of place, but will add a much needed statement piece you can wear when you want to standout. Tartan trousers are the way forward, for this and can be paired with a bottle green bomber jacket or suit jacket for a smart-casual look.

If you feel braver, or if you’re like me and can’t resist a pop of colour try the MacKay Blue like the ladies, but add in a splash of red to bring out the colourful stripe. Pair a two-piece blue suit with a red sweater and red cable knit scarf for a daring but cohesive outfit. If you aren’t ready for the full tartan suit, mix and match with plain blue items to calm down the pattern and create a more refined look. Build up your collection with a matching MacKay tie and cufflinks for when you want just a splash of tartan.
