The V Pleat is I think a very sophisticated and smart gift wrap technique, one I expect from my sister-in-law, Susan, but would have always imagined am highly unlikely to achieve. Well this year everyone is in for a treat because I have mastered the V Pleat and now I am going to share it with you so you can wow friends and family too!

You will need scissors, good quality wrapping paper, double sided tape, some ribbon (tartan or otherwise) and a nice rectangular shaped gift that is solid and therefore easy to add the pleats to, squishy parcels are going to make this style of gift wrapping very difficult. And who needs to make life more difficult? The quality of the wrapping paper I mention as it is much easier to crease a slightly thicker paper and avoids the risk of tearing when you pull it nice and tight.

Tartan Gift Wrapping V Pleat

1. Lay your gift in the centre of the paper with only a little extra on the side closest to you and fold over the top side, creasing it firmly

2. Tuck in the right hand side making your v or triangle shape (the video demonstrates this much better than words)

3. Do the same with the left side, continuing to crease firmly to give you nice sharp edges. You can now see layer one of your V.

4. Stick a short piece of double sided tape on the underside of the V to hold it down

5 .And repeat! Keep folding in the right, then left and sticking down with tape and your beautiful V pleat is formed.

6. Tuck the final pleat under itself for a neat and tidy finish

7. Fold in the open end, trimming extra paper off if you need to and securing neatly with another strip of double sided tape. No visible pieces of sellotape does add to the finish doesn't it?

8. Finish off with a simple piece of tartan ribbon tied in a bow. Beautiful!
