Kids Kilts - Pass a Scottish Kilt down through the generations

Baby Kilts, Toddlers Kilts, Kids Kilts we can custom make a kilt for any age from newborn to teenage. Our children's kilts are made with all the traditional details of an adult kilt, elastic in the waistband and extra hem length to allow for growing room. Now to answer a few of your frequently asked questions about kids kilts.
Do children wear kilts?

Why yes of course! Nothing is cuter than kids in kilts. We make boys and girls kilts and the only difference is that they buckle to a different side, however if you are sharing or passing on from brother to sister don't let this worry you. It is traditional in Scotland for boys to receive a kilt for their 18th or 21st birthdays and all the relatives give gifts of the many accessories to accompany a kilt outfit, however most Scottish children will wear a kilt to special occasions from a young age. Some babies are christened in a kilt!

What is the purpose of a kilt?

Kilts were originally a purely practical garment providing protection against the harsh Scottish climate and adaptable in that they could be removed and used as a blanket. For over 400 years Scottish Highlanders have been wearing the kilt. Pants were not suited to wading through boggy Highland lands as they would become wet and heavy, never drying out, whereas the kilt was the perfect garment. Of course today's kilt looks a little different to the Great Kilt worn hundreds of years ago (find out more about how to wear this garment on our YouTube channel), and is worn more for special occasions than as a practical garment, however there are many Scots who wear a kilt every day and will happily share with you why they love it so much.
