As we step into Autumn and watch the colours change, updating your outfits to match is the ideal excuse to embrace the colours of October’s Clan of the Month - Buchanan! The bold warm tones in them.

I have been a fan of the Buchanan tartans for a while now, so I of course have my own Mini Kilt in Buchanan Old Weathered! I couldn’t resist the cosy autumnal colours, and I’ve found that I can pair it with many different tops to create both formal and casual outfits. My favourite combination is to match a light sweater with the mustard yellow in the tartan and finish it off with a contrasting Burns Check Modern Brushed Wool Scarf. I just love mixing up my tartans!

Another of my favourite garments is the Buchanan Modern Mini Skirt. It’s the ideal throw-on garment for a quick lunch date or walk around the park. Pair it with solid coloured boots and matching thick tights for an easy winter look. Get yours quickly though as we have one in the sale just now!

Vogue.co.uk has embraced tartans and checks for autumn 2020, explaining; “this is the easiest trend of the season, and all it requires is an unabashed passion for clashing…tights, skirts, coats, and headscarves in jubilant house checks were worn altogether, there are multiple ways to wear your squares come autumn.” As the fashion giant says, clashing your tartans is the way forward for the Fall, and the multiple colours in the Buchanan Modern make this easy. Our Tartan Cape is the perfect place to start, with The Los Angeles Times describing capes as “a must have for Fall 2020”. This has been seen on the runway for Autumn/Winter 2020 in both New York and Paris, as well as in everyday street style situations.

Capes

The cape is the ideal way to appear effortlessly put-together this season. It is a beautiful alternative to the classic Longline Coat, and traditional placket detailing will remain timeless no matter the season. I recommend going bold for the cape (like the catwalk looks) with Buchanan Modern, and pairing this with a long-sleeved tartan fitted dress in a contrasting tartan such as the Black Watch Modern, or Burnett Modern. The trick to clashing is to pick out a colour and combine with a tartan of a similar shade for a more cohesive look. This can either tone down the look or really make you stand out depending on your colour of choice!

According to TheTrendSpotter.net, blue shades combined with natural tones is also bang on trend for this season; As one of the most prominent colour combinations of the season, neutral tones with a blue twist is a popular choice…It’s a stunning option for anyone and is so versatile that you can try hundreds of different pieces.” So, for the gentlemen, I recommend exploring Buchanan Blue. Bode demonstrates this perfectly in their Autumn/Winter 2020 collection, combining shades of blue with browns and creams. They have opted for wide leg, cropped trousers with un-tucked oversized sweaters, shirts and boxy jackets for a really easy and relaxed approach to tailoring.

Create your own runway look with classic fit Buchanan Blue Trousers and a wider hem width, a casual mushroom sweater and tailored tweed overcoat (our beautiful Cairngorm Peacock Jacket would match perfectly!).

If blue is really your colour, I suggest mixing and matching your blue tones all in the same outfit. Go for a Buchanan Blue Waistcoat, blue tweed trousers and a navy sweater for a complementary outfit with lots of depth. Add in a pair of Patriot Modern Boots and you’re ready for walking through the autumn leaves!

We love to see your photos and styling, so please send us your Clan Buchanan outfits!
