June has been dedicated to Clan Bell, we've had a fantastic time celebrating and loved seeing Clan Members far and wide getting involved in the celebrations! We received some lovely stories from Bell members that we just had to collate all of our favourites here on the blog.
Teresa Long Bell
Teresa came to visit us in our Edinburgh store a few years ago when she was visiting Scotland from Florida! She had this gorgeous outfit made in the Bell of the Borders tartan, including a Long Fluted Skirt, Wool Tartan and Velvet Stole, Amelia Hat, and some Wool Ribbon to tie around her flowers. Teresa then paired this with a stunning blue top to pull the whole outfit together, doesn't she look fantastic?
Rushi Ng Cheng Hin
This is a photo of my daughter, Rushi Ng Cheng Hin, wearing dungarees made with a Bell tartan lining and straps (her cousin Tanya Wong sewed it for her). Rushi is a London baby who is half Scottish and half Mauritian, so she has two beautiful little nations in her heritage to be proud of!
Lisa Phillips
The first time I found out anything on the Bell Clan was at Stone Mountain Highland Games two or three years ago. My family originally came from Maxeys, Georgia. My grandfather and his brother, Calvin O'Neal and Erskine Bell then moved to Oconee County, South Carolina. It was great finding out some history about my connection to the clan.
Lorraine Bell
Last year we were lucky enough to interview Lorraine Bell, the Chief of New York Caledonian Club and member of Clan Bell. We first met Lorraine when we attended Tartan Week in New York, as Lorraine is very involved in the celebrations due to her being a member of both the Saint Andrew's Society of the State of New York & The American-Scottish Foundation. So when it comes to all things Scottish in New York, Lorraine knows what's going on!
David Bales
Clan Bell first attracted my attention when my family and I attended the Scottish Festival in Woodland, California. Passing by the Clan Bell tent, I saw a t-shirt with three variations on my last name, so I struck up a conversation with the gentleman inside. I made a point of chatting him up every year thereafter.
Irene Davenport
My mother was Margaret Jane Bell and my grandfather was James Hogg Bell he was born in Galashiels, in the Scottish Borders on 30th of May 1890 my grandmother was Rachel Gray McIntosh.
ScotlandShop On The Sofa | Clan Bell
Each month as part of our celebrations we take to the Scotlandshop Sofa to discuss everything there is to do with our Clan of the Month. When it came to the Bell's we discussed their Reiving past as part of the notorious Devil's Dozen, as well as digging into their history and origins within the Scottish Borders and Dumfries. If you want to learn more about this fearless Clan, then this is the video for you.
Now that June has come to an end, that certainly doesn't mean our love for Clan Bell is over, so be sure to get in touch with us if you fancy chatting all things Clan Bell!
