Throughout November we have been celebrating all things Clan Henderson. We have met some famous faces, visited many sites, and gained great insight into the history of this ancient clan. Finally, we called upon the valued Clan members to share their stories and we had a wonderful response; read the blog to find out more!

Kirsteen Henderson Scowcroft

We received a lovely and touching email from Kirsteen about her Henderson heritage. Kirsteen says,

"Thanks so much for having the Henderson clan as your clan of the month! I love to wear my custom Henderson dress at special events."

"Here's a photo of my late Dad, William Henderson, who sadly passed away April 2024 after a brave battle with cancer.

He loved wearing his Henderson tartan kilt (here he is with my mum at a wedding - above), even when he was a wee boy (left hand side in black and white photo with my grandparents and his older brother Ian on the right - below)."

"My Dad was a proud Henderson, patriotic Scot and loved to play the chanter too. Something he passed on to my younger sister and I. And much to our surprise our clan motto was also our school's motto and crest at Hamilton Grammar school, that we wore on our royal blue and emerald green school blazers! It was the crest with the hand holding the star and crescent back in the 1990's, however the school have changed it since, but kept the motto, Sola Virtus Nobilitat."

Thank you, Kirsteen, for sharing your story!

Laura Henderson Petry

We also received another wonderful email from Laura about her Henderson heritage. Laura says,

"Greetings from Bellevue, Nebraska, USA. Our family has enjoyed sharing our Clan Henderson heritage throughout many years. The appreciation of belonging of the newest family members was evidenced when our grandson, age 8, asked to have a kilt "like his uncle David, so they could match for David's wedding." We got to display the clan tartan twice for weddings! David's wedding in October 2024 AND his sister Eva's wedding in October 2025."

"We are very happy to have researched and learned the stories of, and visited the homes and churches of our Henderson ancestors, Alexander Henderson and Janet (Doctor) Henderson. They immigrated to America from Dundee, Scotland in March of 1869, with their young son, David Henderson. David grew up and married Minnie Linn (Irish). They had a son, Alexander Henderson who had eight children, the youngest being Oral Henderson. Oral grew up and married Marian Henley. They had two children; Laura Linn Henderson (Me!) and James Lawrence Henderson (now of Upper Heyford, England).

My husband and I have two grown children. All of our children and grandchildren have worn our Henderson Tartan for Scottish Society of Nebraska events, weddings, Highland games and holiday celebrations. Thank you for helping us celebrate our heritage through your excellent tartan products... kilts, sashes, pillows, ornaments, etc! Attached is a sampling of your wares on display. ;-)"

Thanks so much, Laura!

Unfortunately November has come to an end, that certainly doesn't mean our love for Clan Henderson is over, so be sure to get in touch with us if you fancy chatting all things Henderson!
