Tartan Tales of Clan MacIntyre

Throughout June we have been celebrating all things Clan MacIntyre. We have met some famous faces, visited many sites, and gained great insight into the history of this ancient clan. Finally, we called upon the valued Clan members to share their stories and we have had a few great stories; read the blog to find out more!

Former Congressman Mike McIntyre sent us a couple of photos for our celebrations. You may recognize him: our Founder Anna interviewed him a while ago! Watch the interview on YouTube.

Mike is the Co-Founder & Co-Chairman of the Friends of Scotland Congressional Caucus, and above he is pictured on the right with his two sons, Joshua and Stephen McIntyre next to him.

For the photo above he says, "Here’s my son, Josh McIntyre with his wife, Sarah and children, Will and Ruth, when they were at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina in July of last year. This is for your emphasis in June on the McIntyre clan. We have traced our roots in the Carolinas all the way back to Scotland!"

We enjoyed the photos and wee story from Louis in New Zealand.

He says, "Kia ora ScotlandShop. My story started with a DNA test, to see how much Scottish I do have in my life. When the result come back, it said 44% Scottish! Me and my family went to Dunedin to get MacIntyre Hunting Tartan made for me to honour my Scottish ancestors.

I'm very lucky to have Scottish ancestors in my life, I have two Scottish Clans, MacIntyre and Cochrane."

Jonathan got in touch to let us know that the Annual Micum McIntire Clan Association Reunion will be held July 31, August 1, and 2 in York, Maine. For information, head to the reunion page on the Association's website.

Founded in 1917, the association consists of the descendants of Micum McIntire, a Scottish prisoner of war with an incredible story of survival.

After he and his brothers were captured at the Battle of Dunbar in 1650, and having survived brutal imprisonment, starvation, and disease, they were taken along with 150 prisoners to the colonies of New England. Around 6-8 years later Micum was finally free and around 1668 he settled in York, Maine. Today, the association focuses on researching, preserving, and sharing the remarkable history of Micum and his family tree.

Jonathan also told us Clan MacIntyre will host a tent in the clan village at the 2026 Glasgow Lands Scottish Festival held on Saturday, July 18, in Look Park, Northampton, MA. We will be there with our tartan tent as well, head to our Events page listing to find out more!

We received an interesting email and video from Ken MacIntyre. He says, "Good morning from a Scotrail train approaching Dalmally the home village of my MacIntyre grandfather and great grandfather. When I was recently researching a talk on Culloden, I learned that MacIntyres along with other clans served under the Appin Stewarts in the Jacobite army. Five fell and are commemorated in the memorial at Old Appin church.
