The School of ScotlandShop - Designing a Tartan
With schools and nurseries shut across the country, we thought it would be fun to create the School of ScotlandShop. Maths and Science may not be our strong points, but we love history and all things Scottish. Join us over the upcoming weeks as we design new tartans, hunt for Nessie, find out about Scotland's past, and so much more! We're glad that you can join us!
Last week we started the School of ScotlandShop with an Activity sheet all about our great wee country, don't worry if you missed lesson 1, you can still go back and take part!
This week we have enlisted the help of Emily from our design & marketing team to take this lesson as we look in to designing your very own tartan. You may already know one of the tartan's Emily designed... It was created for a Scottish sporting legend and stands out with some very bright colours... yes that's it, Doddie'5 tartan!
How to design your tartan
Pick Your Colours
Tartans are always lovely, bright and colourful so make sure to pick wisely. Most commonly tartans will have around five colours within the pattern but feel free to pick as many or as few as you like. Why not choose the colours from your school crest, your favourite sports team, colours found in your garden or simply just your favourites.
Doddie'5 Tartan features the colours of the Rugby Teams Doddie Weir Played for, Blue & White for Scotland, Black & White for Newcastle Falcons and Black & Yellow for Melrose.
Name Your Tartan
Make sure to name your Tartan, this could be your last name, your school name, or your pet, the more creative the better!
Example Designs
Local Primary School, Chirnside Primary School recently held their own Tartan Design Competition with their Primary 2 class. We were honoured to be asked to judge the competition. All of the entries were fantastic so we felt we had to showcase the three winning designers work in this weeks blog. Emily was so inspired by the designs that she re-created the designs within our tartan design software.
