Doddie'5 Tartan Ted - Ted has crossed the Border!
#Doddie5TartanTed is on a mission to make it from BT Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh down to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff in time for the Doddie Weir Cup match on the 3rd November, raising awareness of Doddie'5 Tartan and the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.
At the start of week Ted travelled just over 100 miles from Preston Lodge RFC in East Lothian down to Stewartry RFC in Castle Douglas down in Dumfries and Galloway.
Stewartry 1st XV play within Tennent's West Regional Division 1 and their Senior Ladies, Stewartry Sirens are in the Tennent's Women's Premier League. The club also field 7 youth teams from Primary 3 up to the Under 18's.
During his time with Stewartry Ted managed to hit the headlines in the Daily Record and also squeeze in a visit to Gatehouse Primary School.
After Stewartry, Annan was Ted's next stop. Annan RFC in it's current form was founded 50 years ago, back in 1968. Annan run 3 senior teams, 2 men's teams and 1 women's as well as 9 youth teams from Primary 1 up to Under 18.
The club hold a Scottish record in winning 7 championships in a row between 1991 and 1998, moving from Glasgow District League Division 2 up to National League Division 2 in the process. Their first XV currently play in Tennent's West Division 1 and their senior Women, Annan Warriors play in Tennent's Women's Premier League.
From Annan, Ted then crossed the Border in to England and on to Carlisle Rugby Club. Carlisle RFC was founded in 1873. The club run a huge youth section, 3 men's teams, a very successful women's side and a girl's u15 team. Their senior men's team play in the North One West League and are currently topping the league table with 5 wins and only 1 loss. The club were Cumbria Cup Winners in 1908,1961 and 2017.
On Sunday Carlisle's youth team had a match against Upper Eden RUFC who had travelled from Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.
After the weekend, Ted got buckled up and headed further south to Penrith Rugby club. Penrith have a total of sixteen teams, 5 senior and 11 junior. The first Xv transferred from the North 1 East league to North 1 West for the 2018-19 season.
From Penrith it was time to visit Lancaster and Vale of Lune RFC. The club was founded in 1900, one of the founding members was Herbert Storey, a High Sheriff of Lancashire at the time.
The first team play in the North Premier league after winning the North 1 West league last season.
The next stage of Ted's journey will be to Lymm RFC in Cheshire. From Lymm there's still a further 155 miles and less than two weeks for Ted to make in to Cardiff in time for the Doddie Weir Cup, so he needs all the help he can get to complete his journey!
The reason that Ted set out on his journey from Murrayfield to Cardiff was to raise awareness of both Doddie'5 Tartan and the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.
