Kate & Her Coat
We've always loved watching Kate, Princess of Wales' style, from when she was Kate Middleton and first dated Prince William, through to the styles we see today. We have particularly loved Kate's Black Watch plaid frock coat, designed by Alexander McQueen. It made its first appearance more than 10 years ago, still appears regularly, and we loved the style so much that we created the ScotlandShop version. Welcome, to our very own Kate Coat.
We don't just offer the Kate Coat in Black Watch plaid. Plaid numbers are increasing all the time, but at time of writing, your very own Kate Coat can be made in your choice of 1,334 different plaids. Many of our plaids are available in different weights. Choose 10oz (standard weight) for a beautiful, floaty, lightweight feel, choose heavier weights for more warmth and a slightly heavier feed to your coat.

Kate Coat - Smart Casual
Thompson Camel is a very well known plaid, thanks to its similarity to the design used by Burberry, the UK fashion house. This beautiful blue plaid is the Dress Hebridean version of the Thompson plaid. Match the colours in the plaid to a skirt or top for an outfit for work, a night out or events where a little formality is required.

This tartan is Scrymgeour Muted. Muted tartans are, as the name suggests, quieter, with a more subtle look, often using more earth based, Autumnal colours.

Kate in Red: Christmas Concert Style
Inspired by Kate Middleton's stunning outfit at the Christmas Carol Concert at Westminster Abbey in December 2024, we also have a moodboard so you can create the Princess of Wales' look with the Kate Coat in Solid Scarlet Modern wool, and co-ordinate with our Gathered Skirt in Morrison Red Modern tartan, topped off with a Crew Neck Cashmere Sweater in black. Our favourite accessory has to be the Big Bow which Kate wore in black but we can also make in any tartan.
