Shoes For Every Occasion - The Wedding

Girls as we all know you need a pair of shoes for every occasion, or two or twenty. This series of blogs will be exploring the trends of 2016 and introducing ways to wear and get the most of our exquisite range of tartan shoes. Whether you’re getting married, off to a posh do, going for some lunch with friends or heading off to work we’ll suggest different ways to celebrate your tartan shoes. And this week we are getting married!

You may remember back in July 2015 our resident shoe addict Sarah wrote a blog on wedding shoes. This year, as part of the shoes for every occasion series we are revisiting this to look at current trends for the bride and bridesmaids but not forgetting the second most beautiful woman at the wedding- the mother of the bride!

The Bride

Admittedly trends do not noticeably jump in leaps and bounds in bridal fashion, your mum probably wore a white or ivory dress and let's be honest you probably will too. This year texture and appliqué are the key fashion trend. From beautiful, amazingly detailed, floral 3D embellishments, intricate beading to even full out fluffy feathers. Some of the most beautiful brides this season have adorned the Illusion Bodice. Brides are you feeling brave? Go all out with a sheer illusion bodice with lace appliqués covering your modesty in all the right places. For the more shy bride, wear a lace bralet underneath, the preferred option if you’re planning to get jiggy on the dance floor, although if you don't it would make for a memorable day for all the guests and photographs would be fantastic!

We digress...back to shoes. With a full length dress you can pretty much get away with whatever shoes you like - even the comfy Converse! To elongate those lovely legs go for an elegant court shoe and in tartan we have our best selling Platform court shoe. Imagine his face when you hitch up your dress and flash a bit of his family tartan at the altar. If you are tall and don't want to overshadow the groom, or just love your comfort go for flat pumps or sneak a pair into your bag to pull on later when the dance floor beckons. We do recommend (although we are a little biased) our tartan pumps as with extra padding in the sole as they are honestly like wearing your slippers! Add a matching Tartan Stole for when it gets a bit chillier later in the evening.

One of my favourite style trends, go fabulous 50s retro with a gorgeous tea length dress decorated with lace and hand stitched beading with a sweet heart neckline. The obvious choice of shoes to go with this style are the ravishing Tartan Platform Peep Toes. For a little less height wear the Tartan Kitten Heels. These will match perfectly with one of our super stunning Tartan Boleros.

The Bridesmaid

Okay, we’ve dressed the bride, now for her bridesmaids. Pastels are the hot trend for bridesmaids this season. And why not have each bridesmaid in a different colour? Team these up with one of our dancer tartans which have a white base combined with some dreamy summer shades. Doesn't Harris Lilac tartan look fantastic with a soft purple? Add a touch of tartan with the shoes and complete the look with a Tartan Bow Belt, some Wool Tartan Ribbon for the bouquets or even ask us about our range of tartan fabric that you can have added to your dresses by your dress maker.

Mother of the Bride

A mother’s work is never done and that is certainly true when it comes to the wedding. While fussing over everyone else and all the details you forget that you need to dress yourself. This is always the hardest outfit of the wedding. Shopping recently with a friend and her mother for my friend’s wedding we really struggled with mums dress. She wanted to look sophisticated and sexy but not too young and certainly not too old! Don't you worry, help is at hand!

Looking at current trends lace is in, pastels are also in but I like the contrast of the mother of the bride in a darker outfit next to the bride’s white or ivory dress. You can’t go wrong with a pencil dress, it flatters every shape and size, add some lace and the obligatory big hat and Bob's your drunk, dancing, kilted uncle. Team this up with some Tartan Platform Court Shoes, a matching Muckle Peerie Poak Tartan Clutch Bag and for when it’s a bit colder a Tartan Bolero. And of course, because we can never have too much tartan why not consider going totally tartan with a Fitted Tartan Dress custom made to fit you perfectly and match perfectly with those shoes?
