Even though the weather in Scotland is a bit hit and miss as we step fully into Spring, we’ve still been exploring outdoors and enjoying what wild Scotland has to offer. At ScotlandShop, we’re always trying to look our best – even when out wandering the rugged hills, so here are my ‘Wild Scotland’ styling tips!

For an updated country outfit for the women that is sure to look good, as well as be practical and warm, I suggest starting with a classic tweed jacket. Traditionally, these would be in a green or brown shade to blend in with the natural surroundings, but to modernize your look try a muted grey with velvet styling details (such as our crag and white ladies jacket) or go bold with a pink or purple checked tweed. You can pair this with a matching pencil skirt, or slim trousers for a coordinated look, or to keep it casual, wear it with your favourite blue jeans and boots. If you want to go full out, opt for a matching cap that will always look timeless and classic with a tweed jacket.
Of course, this also applies to the gentlemen! Tweed will look good on anyone for a number of occasions and can be easily mixed and matched with your current wardrobe. For men, I think the classic tweed colours are usually more wearable, so stick with the green and brown herringbone and check patterns and add a flat cap to finish the look off.
If you really want to embrace your Scottish roots (and are brave enough to face the chill), a kilt can be styled into the perfect casual look for everyday wear. It is a common misconception that a kilt can only be worn formally, such as to a wedding or ceilidh, but you can actually wear your kilt the same way you’d wear a pair nice of jeans!
If you’re looking for a new kilt for wearing daily, go for our 4-yard casual kilt. This is made with lightweight 10oz wool which is ideal for spring/summer use. You can always choose your family tartan, but if you’re unsure what to go for, I recommend looking at the hunting or weathered tartan variations. These muted, calm colours give you an Outlander/country look that fits so well with the Scottish landscape and the springtime weather.
Pair your casual kilt with a chunky cable knit sweater for the chilly spring afternoons, and a kilt belt and clan crest buckle. Make sure to tuck your sweater into your kilt as you would a shirt for a neater finish. Complete your look with ecru kilt socks rolled down and boots for walking! If you want to incorporate more traditional elements, add a casual leather sporran in either black or tan, and an antique finish kilt pin for a put-together, yet informal outfit.
