Capital District Scottish Games

Capital district scottish games
agosto 31st - 31st 2024
Event Address: Altamont Fairgrounds 129 Grand Street, Altamont NY, 12009

We can't wait to return to our favourite Capital District Scottish Games, held at Altamont Fairground and local to our Albany shop. We will be there in our tartan tent with swatch books full of over 500 Scottish and Irish tartans, so come along to find your Clan tartan and celebrate your Scottish heritage this September. We will have samples of all our products and plenty to tempt you with, tape measures at the ready for custom-made and tailored garments. And of course lots of the beautiful Albany tartan that we designed for the County when we very first arrived in the region.

There is a rich history behind the Capital District Scottish Games, beginning with the mighty MacRae clan. The MacRaes lived in the area and organised the first Scottish Games in the Region in 1939. They then kept the games going at the Locomotive Club in Schenectady until 1966. Unfortunately, there was a 12 year break where there were no games. The Schenectady Pipe Band then revived the Capital District Scottish Games in 1978 and helped it grow into the games we know and love today, at the Altamont Fairgrounds.

The Games will feature the traditional athletic games, including the caber toss, hammer throws and stone puts. There will be a plethora of colourful Scottish dancers performing on stage, and of course no games is complete without pipe music. To compliment all these exciting events is a variety of food, featuring some traditional Scottish delights, such as haggis. And if you want some goodies to take home, as well as tartan, in our tent we also have the most delicious chocolate and Shortbread made in Edinburgh. A little taste of Scotland for everyone!
