The Pleated Skirt can be worn with many things, for instance a plaid Bolero jacket in a matching plaid with a simple top would create a very smart outfit, suitable for many events. If you are looking for the full plaid look there is nothing stopping you from adding a pair of gorgeous court shoes or kitten heels to completely embrace your plaid. With our large range of Women’s Accessories there is something for everyone, whether it’s a cosy brushed wool plaid scarf to pair with a simple sweater, or a beautiful handbag such as the Muckle Fantoosh to give that finishing touch. With a skirt as lovely as this one you will not struggle to look the part.
Like many fashion creations, the pleated skirt was not designed by just one designer. Over the past century the pleat design has transformed, although over 4,000 years ago the Egyptians would wear many pleated garments as a sign of wealth. In 1909 a Spanish fashion designer named Mariano Fortuny revolutionised pleating with his technique of hand pleating damp silk fabric and then feeding it through heated metal tubes in order to maintain the pleat. However, the chemicals and temperatures he used were never discovered meaning this technique died with him in 1949. Then, in 1993 a Japanese designer, Issey Miyake, created a different technique in which he would sew his garments two or three times bigger than they were meant to be and then fold and sandwich the fabric between paper to heat press it creating permanent pleats.
To measure the skirt you will need to take three measurements, your waist where you would like the waistband to sit, you hip which will be the widest part of your bottom, and the length you would like your skirt to be. Take a look at our Custom Skirt Sizing Guide for more details.
