To ensure that you get the perfect fit for your tartan skirt or kilt be sure to follow our measuring tips and advice:
For the most accurate measurements, use a tailors tape measure and have a friend or family member measure for you. Ensure you have nothing in any of your pockets and that you stand tall and relaxed while getting measurements taken. All measurements should be provided in centimetres or inches.
If you require any further assistance with sizing, our tartan team will be more than happy to help - get in touch or book a measuring appointment with one of our tailoring consultants.
Waist (B): Measure around the body at the position you would like the skirt waistband to sit. Ensure the tape measure is straight across the front and back of the body. Please note: Skirts over waist 91cm | 36 inches carry a small surcharge
Hips/Seat (C): Measure around the widest part of the bottom, ensuring the tape measure is straight across the front and back of the body.
Length (E): Measure from the desired skirt waist, down to the desired length of the skirt.
Please note that the maximum lengths for our Women's Plaid Skirts & Kilts are:
Plaid Mini Kilt: 18 inches | 46cm
Plaid Kilted Skirt: 29 inches | 74cm
Full length Plaid Kilt: 41 inches | 104.1cm
Plaid Gathered Skirt: 41 inches | 104cm (surcharge applies to lengths over 37inches | 94cm)
Plaid All Round Pleated Skirt: 29 inches | 73.5cm
Plaid Mini Skirt: 18 inches | 45.5cm
Plaid Pencil Skirt: 28 inches | 71cm
Plaid Fine Pleated Skirt: 32 inches | 82cm (surcharge applies to lengths over 29 inches | 74cm)
Body measurements are always best for tailored or made to measure garments but if you need to take the measurements from an existing skirt this video shows you how. Even if you just love the length of a particular skirt and want to re-order the same length, this is easier to do on a garment than in person. Or perhaps you are buying a special gift and don’t want the recipient to know but you can sneak into their wardrobe and measure their favourite skirt!
The Fabric
We use a soft, lightweight 10oz wool fabric woven in Scotland to make your plaid skirt or kilt. This fabric is the perfect weight to create that swing that makes a pleated skirt or kilt look and feel so good.
The Plaid
We have a limited range of stock plaids available or we can make your plaid skirt or kilt to measure for you and you can choose from over 500 Scottish clan plaid. If you can't find the one you are looking for please ask as we may be able to source it for you.
How to care for your plaid Skirt or Kilt
When properly cared for your plaid skirt or kilt will last for generations. This is a pure wool fabric and should be dry cleaned only. Wool fabric can become dull with general dust and dirt, gentle brushing with a lint brush will remove this and brighten it up again. Always ensure the garment is dry before storing and kept in a garment bag to prevent moths.
