We’ve absolutely loved exploring the delightful history of Clan Duncan and we’re excited to share one more Duncan treat with you! What we love most of all is receiving stories from clan members and the Duncan’s have sent in some lovely tales and photos. Keep reading below to find out what members of Clan Duncan have been up to!
Duncan Wedding Celebrations
Let’s face it, we all love a good wedding and Scottish weddings are even better! Our first story is from Sophie who was married just last year in 2021. As many of us with Scottish pride do, Sophie wanted to incorporate her husband’s Duncan heritage into the wedding, so the groom wore a Duncan Modern tie for the big day and Sophie wore a gorgeous Duncan Modern Jacket. This is a wonderfully cool way to keep cosy in chilly weather and we think the happy couple look amazing! Congratulations to the bride and groom!
Going a bit further back in time, Connie Duncan Birmingham shared an early 20th century wedding photo of Elizabeth Ann Meikle Duncan and Olaf Eleeson, with family members Ella Duncan and John Duncan, pictured behind the bride and groom. These Duncan’s were located in South Dakota and it really shows just how spread out the clan became, even in America!
Duncan Christmas Creations
One of our sweetest stories comes from Judy, who created a Duncan tartan dress for her young granddaughter. See what she has to say below.
My eight year old granddaughter, Sava, lives in the UK. When she found out that I was coming to visit for Christmas, she asked me to make her Christmas dress out of Duncan tartan fabric. So I ordered the fabric, let her choose the pattern, sewed it and delivered it to her upon my arrival. I am thrilled that she is taking family ties so seriously.
A Unique Duncan Heritage
Next, we have an interesting connection between Scottish and Jewish heritage from Brent Duncan. With the couple wearing gorgeous coordinating Duncan outfits, including a Duncan Ancient Kilt!
This was actually for Chanukah. The strings coming off my Kilt are actually Tzitzit and the Hammer on the side is an ode to Judah "the Hammer" MacCabees. We do a teaching on the Scottish history of Israel and the meaning and history of the Israel connections to the Declaration of Arbroath, to include the history of the Picts (MacApline and the connection to the Duncan lineage and kingship of Scotland).
Delectable Duncan Treats
Finally, we have the most delicious story of the month from Annie K. Morgan. She’s actually the owner of Happy Scot Cookie Spot and, here, she’s managed to create a Duncan tartan cookie! Not such an easy feat...
Can you believe the artistry? We can't wait to try one!

Catching up with Piper Ally
Did you know that TikTok Piping legend, Ally the Piper, is actually a member of Clan Duncan? Which is why we had to speak to her for our Duncan Clan of the Month celebrations. She tells Amy how she first began playing the bagpipes, and why they are her favourite instrument out of the huge selection of instruments she is talented enough to play. Watch the interview to discover her story.
