The Welsh name of Madoc originates from the Old welsh names of Madawc and Madog as well as Matoc, which translates to 'goodly'. It was first recorded in Herefordshire where the dynasty held a family seat from ancient times with the name first documented on the early censuses taken by the early Kings of Britain. Madoc ap Owain Gwynedd was believed to have been a Welsh prince of the 12th century, who sailed to America over three hundred years prior to the voyage of Christopher Columbus. The legendary story attainted great prominence throughout the Elizabethan era, telling the tale that the Welsh were truly the first to step on American soil!

Ancient Tartan
Prima del 1860 i tessuti venivano colorati utilizzando tinture animali e vegetali. Ciò produceva i colori più tenui tipici dei tartan antichi, verdi muschio e azzurri cielo, un rosso più aranciato e, secondo alcuni, metteva in risalto il motivo con un effetto molto maggiore, poiché i contrasti erano molto più vivaci rispetto ai tartan moderni. Il motivo o sett rimane lo stesso in tutte le varianti di un singolo tartan, e variano solo le sfumature o i toni.

Weathered Tartan

Castell y Bere
Castell y Bere is a remote ancient castle ruin strung along a jagged rocky outlet in the Dysynni Valley at the bottom of Cader Idris. The fortress was built by the Welsh prince Llyywelyn asp Iorwerth in order to protect the Kingdom of Gwynedd but once the English invaded it was taken under their control in the later 13th century. However, it was the sight where to courageous Welsh leader, Madoc ap Llywelyn, mounted a revolt again King Edward I where it was besieged by the Welsh!
