Who wants to make a lot of fuss, eh? Sure, some people want to scream and shout and, more likely than not, shake it all about but not the wearer of the Tartan Trouser. This garment speaks of refinement, of enjoying a glass of whisky by a log fire or attending the theatre. Whatever the occasion, this garment speaks, it never shouts. The wearer of the Tartan Trouser is proud of their heritage but chooses to embrace it in a more modest manner.

Tartan trews, originally known in Gaelic as triubhas have a long and noble history in Scotland. Worn by Highlanders well before the kilt became iconic, triubhas were the garment of choice for practicality, especially when riding or braving colder climates. Tailored to fit closely and historically cut on the bias to give the tartan a distinctive diagonal pattern, they combined function with flair. In fact, trews were once regarded as the height of Highland military dress. Over time, they shifted from battlefield necessity to refined formalwear, and while modern trews are no longer cut on the bias, they retain the same elegant style, perfect for those who prefer to wear their heritage with quiet confidence. The traditional Highland dance Seann Triubhas which means “old trews” symbolises the moment of casting off the trousers in favour of the kilt, a powerful gesture marking the end of the ban on Highland dress following the 1746 Dress Act.
