Our customers choose an 8 yard kilt for lots of different reasons, but some of the most quoted are:
It's the best! An 8 yard kilt made using 16oz tartan material woven in Scotland is the traditional Scottish kilt and our customers simply want to buy the best there is.
It's a purchase for life. With a little bit of care, all our kilts will provide decades of life. If you are buying that kilt, the one you've dreamt of for years and will cherish for decades, many customers want to use the heaviest weight and the most material they can.
It's the swoosh and the swing! For the best swoosh and swing, the fabulous movement in a kilt, you need the weight of 16oz material and 8 yards of length to make the deepest pleats you can.
For warmth: For colder climates, 8 yards of 16oz material is perfect for maximum warmth. Wool is a naturally breathable fabric so you can be sure you will be warm, but not uncomfortable.
What's your reason? We love understanding our customers' kilt buying journeys so do let us know or send a picture of you resplendent in your kilt.
As standard we will pleat your kilt to Sett. This means that when you look at the kilt, the overall pattern of the tartan will repeat round the kilt. The front of the kilt, which is not pleated, will have the same pattern as the back of the kilt, which is pleated. This is the most common method of pleating a kilt.
If we pleat to stripe, a particular line or colour in the tartan is the focus of each pleat, creating a strong repetitive design which will look different to the front of the kilt.
Most 8 yard kilts are made using a 16oz / 0.45kg tartan fabric, although we can use a lighter weight fabric if your tartan is woven in lighter weights. The weight is a linear yard weight - a unit of length 36 inches / 91.5cm long. A linear yard does not include a width measurement but most tartan fabric is supplied in a 'double width' measuring approximately 60 inches / 150cm.
16oz is the heaviest tartan fabric and is ideal for a kilt with pleats that hang beautifully and a gorgeous 'swish' when you move.

Returns Process
We hope you love your parcel from Scotland; however, we do understand that sometimes you might need to return or exchange items.
For stock products we have a 30 day, no quibble return policy, this also applies to sale items and in store purchases. Items must be unworn, with labels attached. Simply fill in the authorisation form here we will confirm the address for you to send it back to us.
Custom made or personalised goods are non-returnable unless the item is faulty or made to incorrect measurements. You must give us the opportunity to adjust, repair or replace faulty or incorrect items before you can claim a refund.
