What are the rules on wearing a waistcoat?

    The number one rule for wearing a waistcoat is always leave the bottom button undone. Second to this is ensuring that the length is correct - your waistcoat should meet the trouser waistband and no shirt should be seen between the two.

How tight should a waistcoat fit?

    A properly fitted waistcoat should be snug in the body but not so tight that the buttons pull. It should also be long enough to hit about an inch below the trouser waistband, showing no dress shirt between the two garments

What is the difference between a waistcoat and a vest?

    There is really no no difference between a vest and a waistcoat. This is simply down to your location, for example in the UK the garment is more commonly referred to as a waistcoat, while in America they tend to refer to it as a vest.

When should men wear waistcoats?

    Waistcoats are predominantly worn for more formal events that require a suit, as a waistcoat adds a flair of formality and sophistication to an outfit. However with that said waistcoats can most certainly worn for more casual occasions too, simply paired with some jeans.

Should a jacket match a waistcoat?

    You can either go all-in and match your waistcoat to your tartan suit for a bold statement look, or you can contrast your waistcoat with your suit for a more modern take on a classic style. The choice is completely up to you!
