Personalise Your Jacket

Make your jacket unique to you! There is a number of ways that you can change the details and styling of your jacket, if you're feeling brave you can even choose more than one tartan! Buttons can be added or removed from the main front fastening and the cuff. Cuff buttons are stitched as standard, but we can make them "real" on all or some of the holes. Add a luxurious touch with satin or velvet lapels instead of tartan. The standard lining for our tartan suit jacket is black twill, however this can also be changed to contrast lining that compliments your chosen tartan.

Finish it off with a personal touch by having your initials embroidered on the inner pocket.

How to Style Your Tartan Jacket

A Tartan Jacket of any style is a timeless piece to have in your wardrobe and the styling options are somewhat endless for some styles. As a general styling tip, we would advise letting your jacket really make a statement by keeping the rest of your outfit simple with complimentary block colours.

Our tartan bomber jackets and gilets are a great way to wear tartan in a casual style. For an on-trend laid back look, we suggest wearing them with jeans, a t-shirt (and hoodie for colder days) and trainers.

Tartan suit jackets can be worn as smart, casual and somewhere in-between attire. If you're looking to incorporate it in to your professional, working wardrobe we would suggest opting for a more subtle and darker tartan for example Black Watch or Campbell, to wear with a shirt and trousers, suitable for the office. For a more smart-casual look, we suggest pairing your suit jacket with jeans, a shirt and brogues. This could be easily adapted for a more formal look by adding a tie, waistcoat or switching jeans for a pair of chino trousers.

Tartan Tails/Morning Jackets would usually only be worn for formal events including Weddings and Balls. As standard, this would be worn with a bow tie, waistcoat and tailored trousers. Each of those accompanying garments can be worn in block colour or tartan, mix and match to be as bold or understated as you like.

How formal is a tartan dinner jacket?

A tartan dinner jacket is a great option for formal occasions for example weddings, dinner parties or black-tie galas. Stand out from the crowds of standard block colour dinner jackets in your own clan tartan or opt for a classic generic tartan like Black Watch.

Does a tartan suit jacket need to be worn with tartan trousers?

While we are rather fond of a tartan two piece suit, a tartan suit jacket is incredibly versatile and pairs perfectly with a variety of trousers styles including tailored block colour trousers, and jeans or chinos for less formal occasions - the choice is yours.

Are the tartan jackets made from wool?

Our men's tartan jackets are made from a high quality, lightweight 10oz wool (some heavier weights are available on request) which is woven here in Scotland. With the correct care, our jackets will last a lifetime - a real timeless piece in your wardrobe.

Are tartan jackets considered fashionable?

We offer a variety of tartan jacket styles, from classic suit jacket, to a cosy yet smart knee length jacket, to the more fashion forward bomber jacket, all of which look great and can be worn for many different occasions. Tartan is a timeless design that never goes out of fashion and can be worn year on year without looking dated and always stylish.
