About the Doddie'5 Tartan Collection

Our association with the legendary Doddie Weir is a long and deeply personal one, stretching back many years, long before we began creating the tartan suits he became so famous for.

The idea of a “Doddie tartan” had been discussed for some time, and our in-house designer, Emily, was thrilled when Doddie finally said “Let’s do it” and the serious business of colour and sett design could begin.

By purchasing from the Doddie’5 Tartan Collection, you are directly supporting Doddie’s mission to raise funds for research into Motor Neurone Disease and to help those affected by it.

NEW! Coming July...

We are excited to share that you can now pre-book to hire a kilt or kilt outfit in the Doddie'5 tartan for that special occasion or fundraising event. From Monday July 13, 2026 you will be able to hire 8 yard heavyweight kilts in Doddie's tartan and even better, 10% of your hire goes direct to the Foundation to support research into treatments and ultimately a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.

About Doddie Weir & the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation

Doddie Weir is one of Scottish rugby’s most loved personalities with his strong sense of fun and a proven track record of success for country, club and nation. He earned 61 caps for Scotland during a successful playing career, represented the British and Irish Lions in 1997, and won championships with his two club sides, Melrose and Newcastle Falcons.

In June 2017 before heading out to support the British Lions in New Zealand, Doddie revealed he suffered from Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND is a rare, and as yet incurable, condition that deeply affects the brain and nerves. Often progressing rapidly and leading to weakness in the muscles and eventually paralysis.

In November 2017, Doddie founded the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. With their mission to raise awareness and commitment to helping fellow sufferers, raise funds to aid research and make a difference to the lives of those coping and battling with MND.

About The Doddie'5 Tartan

The bold and meaningful Doddie’5 Tartan was created by Emily, our in-house designer at ScotlandShop, in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Every colour within the tartan has been carefully chosen to reflect key parts of Doddie’s life and legacy. The blue and white tones represent Scotland (his home nation) while the striking black and yellow pay tribute to Melrose RFC, the first amateur senior team he played for. The inclusion of black and white also honours Newcastle Falcons, another important chapter in his rugby career.
