Carmichael Stories from around the world

While we have absolutely loved learning about the history of the CarmichaelClan, there is nothing quite like reading the stories from members of the family! Today we are taking a look at some of the beautiful ways in which the Carmichaels around the world celebrate their Scottish heritage...

Carmichael Heritage

Jesse is very proud of his Carmichael Heritage, so much so he has treated himself to a Carmichael Ancient Waistcoat, and as you can see he is very excited to show of his heritage in his new outfit! Here is what he had to say about his Carmichael family tree.

My maternal grandmother was a Carmichael. Her name was Margaret Carmichael Holcombe. She grew up in Weaverville, North Carolina. Her father, Robert Edgar Carmichael owned a general merchandise store and was the US Post Master for a while until FDR was elected President and placed a Democrat in the position. The pictures are of Granddaddy’s store, a wedding picture of him and Mammie Minnie, a picture of their first four kids, and pictures of my Grandmother as a child and around the time of RE Carmichael’s death in 1941.

Carmichael Heroes

We love hearing how proud members of the Clan are when they talk about their ancestors, especially what Tom had to say about his grandfather...

This man, Ruben Ferrell Carmichael (my grand father) was a legend in the US south. Soo many amazing stories, he might as well be Indiana Jones. He knew Henry Ford, was the biggest and best whiskey bootlegger during prohibition, was a deputy during the Chicago riots, and a motorcycle stunt rider in the Lucky Teeter Stunt Show!

Carmichael Celebrations

Laura's maiden name is Carmichael, so she has always been passionate about staying connected with her Clan, which she has tried to do in many ways through the years.

I visited Scotland in 1993 and drove through Carmichael. I wish I'd dropped by the estate but didn't want to be "that American." I have early memories of my Dad wearing his Carmichael tartan tie. I attended a Burns Supper in 2002 and gained a greater interest in my Carmichael heritage. I even represented Clan Carmichael via Zoom at the Alaskan Scottish Club Burns Supper at the beginning of the year.

Carmichael Church

Mark Anthony Carmichael Stories

Mark recently got in touch to tell us about this church in his local area, which is named after the Carmichael Clan. The church is located in North Bay, Ontario, Canada and Mark has even created a painting of the church, how amazing!
