Scottish Open Pro-Am don the Doddie'5 Tartan
Wednesday kicked off this years Scottish Open with the annual Tartan Wednesday, where celebrities, golfers and the general public are all encouraged to sport a bit of tartan for the day, in full Scottish spirit. The day is a bit of light hearted fun before the real competition starts on the Thursday, and yesterday the early risers out on the course at the crack of dawn were Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose and Hideki Matsuyana.
For this year's Tartan Wednesday the course was awash with the blue and yellow of the Doddie'5 Tartan, with a sea of custom made limited edition Golf Trousers made by ScotlandShop especially for the event to celebrate My Name'5 Doddie Foundation being chosen as the charity for 2018.
There were some big sporting personalities wearing the striking golf trews, such as Sky Sports Commentators; Rob Lee, Andrew Coltart, Wayne Riley and Rich Beem, as well as sporting legends Russel Knox, Gavin Hastings and Stephen Gallacher. Today I thought I would round up a bit of background information on these special people, so you can get to know them that little bit better.
Russell Knox
Age: 33 Residence: Florida
Nationality: Scottish Turned Pro: 2007
Place of Birth: Inverness
World Ranking: 49
Russell is on top form, after he tied in the French Open two weeks ago and won theIrish Open last weekend, which brought his world ranking up from 87th. He is really excited to be playing in the Scottish Open this year, as well as The Open in Carnoustie next week. Playing golf in his home country again for two weeks is the only thing keeping him going through the exhausting competition that is the European Tour. That and the unusually sunny weather of course!
"To make a putt like that is a dream come true" - Knox said when speaking about his win at the Irish Open
Stephen Gallacher
Age: 43 Residence: Linlithgow
Nationality: Scottish Turned Pro: 1995
Place of Birth: Dechmont
World Ranking: 296
Stephen has played in the European Tour since 1996 and has won three separate Championships within his time on the Tour. He started up the Stephen Gallacher Foundation in 2012, which aims to help encourage and develop junior golfers in the Lothian and Borders area (also the home of ScotlandShop). He was also picked to be a captain by Paul McGinley for the 2014 Ryder Cup. Stephen took to Twitter to praise Doddie and his tartan:
Great catching up with the big man today and proudly wearing the Doddie Weir tartan in the @ScottishOpen pro am @DoddieWeir5 @MNDoddie5 @LeuchieHouse @EuropeanTour pic.twitter.com/kfCKqMVLMc

Now for a few of the non-golfing personalities...
Gavin Hastings
Rob Lee
Andrew Coltart, Wayne Riley and Rich Beem
The leaderboard is very tight after day one, Tyrrell Hutton currently sits in first place, with Richie Ramsay, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Patrick Reed and Luke List all tied for second place. There are even four Scots sitting in the top 20!
The Scottish Open ends on Sunday, but don't worry this won't be the last of the white ball-related blog posts, as I will be travelling to Gullane on Sunday to get a final round up of the golf and see how much tartan I can spot, so keep your eyes peeled. If you're away watching the golf this weekend and fancy matching the golfers in their Doddie'5 Tartan, don't fret as our Edinburgh Shop is open all weekend with ties, scarves and tammies in stock!
