Did you know that more than 85 million families in the world have a dog? The market for pet clothing is growing day by day and people dress their pets in any accessory you can think of such as coats, hats, scarves, neckerchiefs and even bow ties!
Celebrities are leading the pet trends mania dressing up their dogs in stylish accessories and outfits, posting snaps of their pets on social media for everyone to admire and even creating their own Instagram pages to show off their adorable pics. Simon Cowell is so in love with his three Yorkshire Terriers Squiddly, Diddly and Freddy that they have their own seats in his private jet and we do love their XFactor themed dog coats.
Posh dog designer Anthony Rubio has made an entire collection of doggy couture that has been shown at New York Fashion Week and the Met Gala with some of the outfits costing over a whopping £2000, including a diamond encrusted jacket and top hat as one of his most famous designs. He has also made replica pieces from Alexander McQueen's own collection into glorious doggy designs. We are disappointed Anthony didn't include the MacQueen tartan that appeared in so many of Alexander McQueen's pieces but if you are looking for a black and red check then this would be the one to choose.
With pet trends all the rage why not jump on the band wagon and show off your Scottish heritage through the four legged friend in your life? We are off to New York next week to take part in the Tartan Day Parade where there is always a strong contingent of clan clad pets. Watch out on social media for the highlights. As most of us now take our dogs everywhere we go, you can co-ordinate with them and be sure everyone knows they’re a part of your clan. Whether you're a MacDonald, a Stewart or a Robertson or maybe just a lover we can help you to create a matching ensemble. We have created a special mini collection for pets to show off during Tartan Week which you can view online or in our pop up shop at the Algonquin Hotel.
Many of our customers have used tartan to create accessories for their special pets and we have a created Pinterest board to share them with you. Highlights are the stylish Aberdeen tartan dog collar, neckerchiefs for their puppies and one customer has even made a Crawford Ancient bow tie for their cat! This just shows that its not only dogs that can be dressed up and pampered but your feline friends also look exceptional in tartan too.
Tartan is recognised globally providing a sense of belonging, community and fellowship wherever you are in the world. The ancient traditions of Scotland are still very much alive now and tartan has become one of the major themes of the fashion world. We are seeing designers such as Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld and Vivienne Westwood all creating runway collections in ode to Scotland and its tartan heritage.
