Tartan Week round up

So many fantastic stories from around the world of Tartan Day festivities. Over 3,000 marchers donned their tartan to celebrate their Scottish heritage for the annual Tartan Day Parade in New York. Glasgow's Lord Provost led the parade up Sixth Avenue followed by civilian and military pipe bands, dance troupes and a mix of representatives of Scottish clans. There is nothing quite like the sound of the pipes and the parade was lined with the blue and white of the Saltire. Joining the marchers this year were 130 tartan-wearing Scottish and West Highland Terriers. The Maple Leaf tartan is now the official Tartan Day emblem in Canada and has been officially recognised adopted by The Second Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment Pipes and Drums. In Fredericton, Scots gathered in front of city hall for a flag-raising event. In Toronto morning Tartan Day celebrations took place at the castle, Casa, and evening celebrations continued at Madison Avenue and a Ceilidh Dance in the Great Hall. The Sons of Scotland pipe band in Ottowa piped on Parliament Hill. In Colorado the Colorado Caledonian Pipe Band received rave reviews about their playing. Back here in Scotland Fife gave a warm welcome to visitors from China, South Africa and London for the Tartan Day Scotland international golf challenge 2011 at the Old Course St Andrews and East Renfrewshire put on a fabulous day's entertainment at Rouken Glen.....the list goes on. Much fun was had by all and it all goes to show what a huge part Scottish culture has to play across the globe and the importance of tartan in our identity. We do love our country and it's most famous product!
