This year in the UK, Mother's Day, or Mothering Sunday falls on Sunday the 19th of March and is a celebration of all things motherhood!

Did you know Mother's Day began as a Christian celebration in the 1600's when devoted Christians would visit their 'mother church' for a special service? It is usually observed on the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter Sunday and reportedly more phone calls are made on Mother's Day than any other day of the year!

Mother's Day is recognised around the world and wherever it is celebrated, it is generally about showering your devoted mum with cards, chocolates, and flowers.

Here in Scotland, Mother's Day is all about showing your mum just how much you love and appreciate them, whether it be by making her breakfast, buying her a bunch of flowers, making a handmade card or doing the housework! Here are a few Scottish Mammies you might recognise:

Kelly Macdonald

As well as this she has also starred in several recognizable films and television shows including Brave, Harry Potter, Nanny MacPhee and Line of Duty. Kelly was married to Dougie Payne of Scottish band, Travis, until 2017 and is a mother of two boys, Theodore and Freddie. After a stint in New York and London, Kelly returned to her roots in Glasgow where she now lives with her children.

Known for her time as prime daytime presenter on BBC Radio 1, as well as slots on Top of the Pops and quite significantly in Scotland for hosting the BBC coverage of T in the Park - Scotland's best festival back in the day! Queen Elinor

She was also a two-time gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games and the winner at the1991 New York City Marathon, 1992 Tokyo Marathon, 1992 World Half Marathon Championships and 1996 London Marathon.
