Clan MacFarlane Tartan Style Blog

This month is all about Clan MacFarlane and it’s beautiful tartans! The fresh colours are perfect for Spring and the warmer weather. Here are my style tips to introduce these colours into your wardrobe.

Although we are in the midst of the new vaccine rollouts, and things are looking up, fashion trends are still focussing on working at home and living a slower life. Vogue.com explains this;

"As for the biggest spring/summer 2021 trends? The new working-from-home routine certainly had an effect on what designers turned out. And for those seeking a more straightforward approach to fashion, there was black and white…In a world with no simple answers or even straightforward questions, designers showed a predilection for black and white – most often, together.”

To keep with this black and white trend, I would go for MacFarlane Black/White Modern and choose classic workwear styles that will never go out of fashion such as a pencil skirt or a two-button jacket. Because of the simplicity in colour, these are incredibly easy to mix and match with existing white shirts, black trousers or overcoats.

For the spring months, I would be tempted to go for a lighter, breezier option in my outfits. A fine pleated skirt can be made to any length, but I think a midi works best for this. The flowing style is ideal for keeping cool when the sun is shining, and paired with a simple white top, white sandals and white cardigan, it will look and feel fresh!

If you’re like me and love a bit of colour, the MacFarlane Clan Weathered variation is the way to go! It encompasses Harpers Bazaar’s ‘peony pinks’ colour trend, and to me it just screams ‘spring’! I suggest combining this on-trend colourway with a lightweight trench coat. Harpers Bazaar offers an insight into the latest trench coat trends;

“The innovative trenches on offer for spring may be based in the idea of a classic, but they’re hardly your typical belted fare. From dramatic lapels to interesting slits, drop waists, and bold sleeves, it seems that you can have your trench and your statement piece all at once. While 2020 has quite literally been about isolation, the prevailing notion is that it’s about time to stand out in a crowd. What better way is there to approach that than in a brightly hued statement coat? Come spring, you’ll have your choice of stripes, patchwork, and checks.”

Our tartan trench coats are ideal for spring summer 2021 with their classic silhouette, and statement colours! A MacFarlane Clan Weathered trench coat will brighten up any outfit, and can see you through work meetings and spring strolls alike.

For the men, Luxury London explain how a wider silhouette in a ‘70s style has made a big come back;

“It’s taken a while for wide-legged trousers to become the default choice for designer brands, but if the spring/summer shows were anything to go by, it’s fair to say they’re here to stay. Wide-legged trousers have it all - they’re comfortable, easy to wear and, if high-waisted, can elongate the wearer’s silhouette, making you look longer and leaner. Continuing the wide theme, oversized outerwear is another trend worth jumping on to for spring, summer and beyond…Plus, you can layer them, which is perfect for unpredictable spring days.“

To keep with this trend, go for a classic fit trouser with a 19 inch hem, and a classic fit double breasted jacket. In terms of tartan colours, pastel shades are also in style for men! If you’re feeling brave, try combining a MacFarlane Clan Weathered jacket for a pop of colour with a more neutral tonal pair of tweed trousers.

For a more casual look, go for a bomber jacket in MacFarlane Black and White Modern. This look, according to GQ is going to “be big for Spring/Summer 2021”;

“From the 1970s-style cropped bomber jackets in functional nylon at Gucci to the classic high-shine flight jackets at Philipp Plein and the cropped minimalist bombers at both Prada and Hermès, there was a neatness to the look which felt less maximalist than it has in previous seasons (and all the better for it).”
