Born William Bruce Rose Jr in Lafayette, Indiana, Axl Rose is an American musician and the lead vocalist of the band Guns N’ Roses. Their first album, Appetite for Destruction, has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, and is the best-selling debut album of all time in the USA.

Elizabeth Rose, 19th Baron of Kilravock, was a Scottish author and literary critic. The daughter of Hugh, 17th Baron, she was educated alongside her brothers, learning to play the violin, read and write. After the death of her brother the 18th Baron, she fought for succession rights and was ultimately granted title to most of the estates, including Kilravock castle, and assumed the title of Baroness in 1788. She was well known for her voracious reading, her reputation inspiring other women in 18th century Scotland to take up reading – in the years 1775-1780, she kept a diary where she recorded having read 217 books!

Anika Noni Rose

Anika Noni Rose is an American actress and singer. She starred in the Academy Award-winning film Dreamgirls, and has also performed on Broadway, for which she won a Tony Award. She is best known for voicing Tiana, Disney’s first African-American princess, in The Princess and the Frog. For this, in 2011, she was named a “Disney Legend.”

Murray Rose

Murray Rose

Described as an “Australian icon,” Murray Rose was a six-time Olympic medal winning swimmer, as well as an actor and sports commentator. Born in Birmingham, England, his family moved to Australia in 1940 when he was a baby. At one time, Rose simultaneously held the world records for 400-, 800- and 1500-meter freestyle. After retirement, he was a patron of several charities including Rainboww Club Australia, which provides children with special needs the opportunity to participate in sport and other recreational activities.

Justin Rose

English golfer Justin Rose came to prevalence with his performance as an amateur at the 1998 Open, Rose won his first Major championship at the 2013 US Open. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio he won a gold medal in the men’s individual tournament, making him one of only 5 golfers to have won official tournaments on all 6 continents where golf is played.

Glenola Rose

Glenola Rose

Glenola Rose was a pioneering American chemist, who worked to promote women’s employment in chemistry in the early 20th century. After graduating with a PhD from the University of Washington in 1915, she was one of the cofounders of the Women’s Service Committee of the American Chemical Society – which continues to promote women in science 100 years later.
