Many of our Scottish Borders customers will know of David Thomson's Men's Outfitters, based in Jedburgh, and their kilt hire service that has provided kilt outfits for weddings, parties, school dances, local festivals and family gatherings for decades.
David Thomson's business is coming to a close, but the kilt hire business has become part of ScotlandShop, operating from our head office and showroom on Station Road in Duns. Coming Soon - Kilt Hire in the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation Tartan
ScotlandShop are the designers and weavers of the official My Name'5 Doddie Foundation tartan. From Monday July 13, 2026 (pre-order available now), you will be able to hire 8 yard heavyweight kilts in Doddie's tartan and even better, 10% of your hire goes direct to the Foundation to support research into treatments and ultimately a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.
Heavyweight 8 yard kilts in Doddie's tartan have never been woven before, so demand is likely to be considerable. Please do book your appointment as soon as possible if you would like to hire one of these kilts.

Our standard hire period is 4 days e.g. if you collect your outfit on a Friday morning, it would need to be returned to us before close of business (6pm) on the following Monday. You are welcome to extend your hire for an additional £25 per day.
Shorter hires are charged at our standard 4 day rate.
Our base price for a 4 day hire of a kilt outfit is £125.00. You can also hire kilt only, trews and children's kilts and outfits. Outfits will need to be picked up and returned from our Showroom and HQ on Station Road in Duns.
Hire of a Sash in Granite City tartan (to match the Granite City kilts) is £25.00 for four days and includes a choice of brooch to secure the sash.
The TD postcode discount cannot be used against kilt hire and is applicable to purchases only.

Our stock changes all the time depending on what is on hire but available tartans include:
Kilt, kilt pin, jacket and waistcoat, bow tie or tie, belt and buckle (on request), sporran, flashes, Sgian Dubh, socks and kilt shoes. Socks are provided new and are not returned at the end of the hire. A shirt can be provided if required for an additional charge. Shirts are also non returnable.

Yes! We would love to provide a matching outfit for even the very smallest member of your party.
Available tartans:
Yes! Our range is smaller but trews are available. Trews are available in Granite City, Scottish Thistle, Spirit of Scotland, Black Watch, Douglas Modern, Braveheart and Jethart tartans. Hire just the trews or make a complete outfit with jacket shoes and tie, the choice is yours!
No. We can rent kilts, jackets or trews as individual pieces provided we have sufficient stock.
Yes. We have a wonderful range of tartan accessories you can purchase to add even more interest and originality to your outfit. Customers with a TD postcode will get a 10% discount off all purchases.
Many items are available from stock but please do check availability in good time for your event.
We would strongly advise that you are measured so that we can provide a kilt outfit with the best possible fit. If you do not want to be measured, you must accept full responsibility for the fit of your outfit. We will always try to swop any items that do not fit, but this cannot be guaranteed if we have not measured you.
No. If you are happy that none of your measurements have changed, we can use the measurements we have. If you're unsure, it is always better to be remeasured and this does not affect the price of your hire.
Yes. New to the hire range are our tartan sashes in Granite City, made with the same tartan as we use for the Granite City kilts. Hire is £25.00 for a four day hire, including a choice of brooch to secure the sash.

Match your partner's kilt outfit with a sash in Granite City, Isle of Skye, Douglas Modern or Flower of Scotland tartans, made in Scotland from tartan woven in Scotland.
Following customer requests, our hire range now includes sashes to match four of our most popular hire tartans, made with the same tartan as our hire kilts. Hire is for the same four day period as kilt and trew hire and includes your choice from two different brooches.
Our Showroom
If you would just like to view tartan fabrics, interiors or clothing and do not require our measuring or tailoring service there is no need to make an appointment. Please just pop in and our knowledgeable, friendly team will be happy to help.
While we have as many fabric samples and garments in the showroom as possible, it is always helpful if you can add a note if you are looking for a particular tartan or product so we can be fully prepared for your visit. If you have any questions or need an appointment out with the times offered please send us an email.

Duns Pipe Band Tartan
Our local town of Duns has had a pipe band for the last 90 years or so and is led and taught by Pipe Major Andrew Ainslie and Drum Major Colin Turner who teach the band's pipers and drummers at least once a week. In 2015 the band designed their very own Duns Pipe Band tartan.
