Celebrating Outdoor Weddings
Getting married in the great outdoors practically guarantees a glorious backdrop! And it seems this trend is here to stay, so we thought we'd put together some ideas for your ideal outdoor celebration, in Scotland or wherever you are in the world!
At ScotlandShop we are no strangers to an outdoor wedding. Our managing director Anna and her husband Neil were married 20 years ago under the big tree in her parents garden, and while she did almost lose her veil to the wind, they did get perfect Scottish weather for the occasion.
Scottish Weather can never be relied upon but there are ways to adapt your wedding outfits to an outdoor setting so you are ready for any element. One of our beautiful brides Angela wore our Tartan Kate Coat in Ferguson Ancient over the top of her wedding dress for her cliff top wedding in Ireland. What a setting!

A recent trend I have noticed is couples taking pictures outside with a cosy stole or blanket to stay warm. When Anna and Neil were married, they brought the benches up from the Gordon Village Hall to make their own aisle. Anna said she "loved the personal feeling of being outside and in a location that was truly unique and not an official venue." If you're looking for different ways to set up your outdoor venue to make your own unique wedding experience, we loved this Gordon Tartan set up. We have used some Gordon Clan Weathered fabric for the altar, and various Gordon tartans for the upholstery of the chairs.

There can be nothing more romantic or special than dining outside. We have seen some beautiful banquet style dining tables outdoors using our Tartan Tableware.
There are so many options for beautiful outdoor venues in Scotland. You can have a dramatic cliff side wedding like Angela, a ceremony in an ethereal forest clearing or by a Fairy Pool in Skye but if you've always dreamed of marrying your prince charming in a fairytale wedding in a castle you don't have to give up on the dream just yet. Why not get married in the castle grounds? Perfect for pictures, we couldn't resist using the dream venue Dundas Castle for one of our photoshoots last year.
